I have not watched the game, just tuned in to the top of the 3rd to see the score and Hawk is ONLY talking about the umpires and how bad it is and how the Twins have 2 of their runs from a blown call. He spent the first full 2 minutes crying about it.

Considering I saw nothing and have no idea what he is talking about I ask?

1. Was it a blown call?

2. Was it that amazingly bad of a call?

3. Know any announcer that cries about the umps that much?

Yes, very bad call. But early in the game, Sox should be able to overcome this. Didn't lead to a five run inning in the eighth, for example. But Hawk Rules: Umps hate the Sox, League Hates the Sox, National Media hates the Sox, FoxNews hates the Sox, Orphans and widows hate the Sox, and of course, God hates the Sox. (but Jesus loves everbody)

Yes, they need offense. Lots More than a solo HR.

But, I don't know how in the world the ump doesn't see that when he's 46" from the play.

It was a pick off play! That was the BIG PLAY that cost them the game?Sorry Sox fans, you are not allowed to blame the game on a pickoff play! A Pickoff play is like a Windfall.

The ump was not in position to make the call, nor should he have been "BEHIND" the play. Did Hawk mention that? Nope, just blamed the umpire for being a bad umpire.

How about the fact Carlos Gomez ran down AJ's drive to Left Center, that was pure talent beating the White Sox nothing more.

I tuned in during the 7th inning. The play happened in the SECOND inning & I saw the replay 3 times during the game & heard Hawk reference it at least 5 times more. I also heard several comments about bad ball & strike calls...but funny enough it was only when the Sox were at bat.

Hawk is AMAZINGLY BAD. HE SUCKS!

It was definately a bad call. A blown call. A call that eventually cost one run. The Sox lost by one run...but they had 7 innings to do something about it, and did not.

Hawk sucks.

Questionable calls by umpires, nickle-and-dime hits, sparkling defensive plays against you -- it happens.
I wouldn't expect anything LESS from Hawk.
I still don't believe that Eddings blew the dropped-third strike call in the 2005 ALCS, but the White Sox took advantage of the situation -- just like the Twins did Wednesday.
I just hope the team doesn't buy into this B.S., because that could affect their performance on the field.

Well, that's partly what makes it a bad call. The umpire has to be in good position to make that call. He clearly was not.

However, I think most people here have the right idea: though the call assisted in the loss, it probably accounted for 10% of the loss. The other 90% is caused by the inability to knock the snot out of a guy throwing rolling breaking balls over the heart of the plate. If the Sox would have been playing tee-ball last night, there would have been a lot of guys hitting the tee.

Nothing about Swisher's check swing yet in ump thread? That was a crap call too. If Swisher just did what he loves to do (stand there with the bat on his shoulder) they would have had the leadoff man on.

On 2nd thought, they probably would have tried to sac bunt which would have gotten fucked up too.

Swish's swing was a judgement call. Looked like the bat crossed the plate even though his wrists never broke. However the umpire putting on the display after the call was a bit over the top.

Marquez had a horrible series. There were several batters on both teams giving him wierd looks Wednesday when he was behind the plate, and from replays it looks like he got maybe half of the calls at 3rd base correct last nite.

Doesn't really matter, Sox couldn't get one goddam clutch hit to save thier playoff lives.

Hawk has a good idea though. These big series in late September should have the best umps, as do the playoffs. They now have replay, and should say "screw it" when it comes to this 'crew' mentality that the Umpires have. They're professionals, but they are also human and will make mistakes. The best ones are needed and should be out there for the playoffs and these big series down the stretch.

That can't be how a swing is determined. Maybe not as much in MLB, but in little league if a kid is all the way back in the box his bat would never cross the plate.
