That's why it was so telling that in the press conference they said they may hire the coach before the GM.

Harbaugh is being offered the chance to either be the GM or pick his own GM to work with.

He still may chose another team but they have to be all in on Harbaugh.

It's so interesting that we have different intepretations of that - I see them saying that because they're stupid.

You see them saying that because Harbaugh is the target.

I think I'm right but I hope you're right.

I agree with Rick that the only way it makes sense for the Bears to hire a coach before a GM is if their choice is Harbaugh or someone else of similar stature.

But I also agree with you that the Bears won't act rationally here because they are hopelessly inept.

I think there's too much focus on the addition of more people on the panel. As some folks said, diversifying the interview panel is the new standard for many industries moving forward - gender/orientation and race.

Based on yesterday's press conference, that certainly seems to be the Bears unofficial motto.

I can see them going with an unknown (cheap), whiz kid analytics GM and a flashier coach.

I want the life coaches, bean counters, and event coordinators off the panel and more people who know something about football on the panel.

My view would be different if I had any faith in George's ability to make intelligent selections for GM/HC.

I wouldn't put it past George to rehire Pace as GM and Lovie as head coach.

At least he played the sport at the highest level, wtf is Phillips sitting in on these for every 4 or 5 years.

He certainly has the kind of background the McCaskeys seem to like.

He talks to the players and reports back to George.

It is embarrassing that these clowns have to hire a search firm to tell them who to hire, or call your competition like Mara or Rooney and ask who ahould I ask to find me a GM and coach..pathetic, I can not wait til this old kunt dies and the team is sold.

We should ask Woodridge Ryan about Tanesha. He was GM or something of the Rush when she was there.

It will be interesting to see how much money they spend, notwithstanding George's declaration that financial considerations will not be a factor. Not only are they still paying Nagy and Pace (no one knows how much), but when a guy like Mel Tucker signs a $95m contract, how much would it cost to get a real candidate like Harbaugh? $20m per year? I see them lowballing, and probably taking a person of color based on all the fanfare about Tanesha Gray. No way are they hiring guys with strong personalities. GM will probably be some young analytics guy.

I think Harbaugh's floor is Kelly's contract.

Agreed, but I'd settle for Phillips to be removed.

"He's ultimately going to negotiate the contract"...what does that have to do with the search. I don't even want the guy negotiating the contract in on the search because I want him to negotiate disinterestedly.

I don't think it's likely they actually get Harbaugh but everything they've done and all the smoke around Harbaugh indicates that they are going for it.

Where the ineptitude likely comes in is if Harbaugh says no. They may have been saved by Brian Flores as he is the clear next best option after Harbaugh.

At halftime of the title game last night I flipped on the Marquis network and they were showing the 1990 ASG and none other than TLR was managing, which gave me a hearty chuckle. The 1990 Pro Bowl coaches were Bud Carson and John Robinson. Bud Carson is dead and Robinson is 86. Robinson is listed as a consultant for LSU so he might still be interested in working.

Tanesha will be the Ted Phillips of the next generation of Mc Caskeys.

If they really wanted to give her the best career advancement options, they would put her in the relocation and stadium building group rather than the coach hiring committee. She could literally make herself a billionaire with the experience that would provide.

Why do we never see Fencik as an alum the Bears consult? Seems like a natural to me.

If you want an old architect of a successful team who also knows about coaching, why not give a call to Jimmy Johnson?

George would likely not be happy hearing what Jimmy had to say about the organization. Would love to see it though.

Fencik has done very well for himself outside of football and probably doesn't want to deal with the BS at Halas Hall. Can't blame him. He can show up for 1985 gatherings or whatnot, sign autographs, then go back to his business which is by all accounts MANY more times successful than the post-Ditka Bears.

Fencik used to be a (very good) paid analyst for the Score and recently has been quite critical of the Bears organization. I think Fencik would be interested in sharing his appraisal of the team with the McCaskeys, but George likely isn't interested in receiving his input.

Louis Riddick is campaigning hard for the job. Sometimes when you campaign, you get elected. I would pass on him. The Morocco guy is intriguing. Unlike Pace, he can point to 4 stops where the team had success drafting players while he was working there.

Was Riddick thought to be a good scout and personnel guy when he was employed by the Redskins and Eagles?
