It's also hard for McCaskey to win this fight since Olin is still - at his age - probably better than any o-lineman McCaskey is responsible for finding via his hand-picked GMs.

Yeah, but it speaks to a certain culture of barbarism that remains within college football. There are psychopaths stalking the sidelines in many programs across the country.

And by the way, Fitz often talks a good game because he has been coached to do so, but he's certainly no angel.

I don't think any major college D-1 coach is an angel. I think the strength and conditioning guys would fit in well at Stateville too.

I think this discussion is interesting because the McCaskeys seem to hire the non-Olin Kruetzs, the more delicate and elegant types who are not prone to cuss-filled outbursts and fits of rage. McCaskey said personality doesn't matter but it definitely does for them. They have a type. Another reason I don't think Harbaugh is coming here. Whoever said they like to hire people they're comfortable around was exactly right .

Oddly enough, I think I first heard that observation--though it was framed less delicately than the way you wrote it--from Mike North more than 20 years ago.

George literally said that he was looking for Pace and Nagy in his new GM and head coach. You can't make this stuff up.

Let's all hope we're not looking forward to the drafting of the next Bears QB in 2023.

Ted Phillips literally said "We have no regrets hiring Pace and Nagy" They conducted themselves with class and blah blah blah blah.

Yep...2 failures that couldn't win a single playoff game....you don't regret it.

If whoever the next coach/GM is determine that Fields isn't the guy, or Fields' play (or lack thereof) makes it obvious, I'd rather they move to a new QB sooner rather than later like they did with Mitch.

That GM didn't even have the balls to face the media and explain his crappy ass teams....threw his head coach out there to take all the public beatings.

Worked Monday, so catching up today, finally heard George's comments on Olin and then Olin's rebuttal.

Really sounds like they had an incident during Olin's playing days and George still holds a grudge, odd to have a guy that should be busy running a billion dollar business be so petty.

Also sounds like George definitely has rabbit ears and hears/reads every single thing said about the team, wondering if they have anyone within the organization that preps George/Ted for media appearances because they both come across as small minded guys that are out way over their skis in their current positions.

As for Olin, would think his actions during his playing days likely have a lot to do with whatever gear he was taking. While these guys had high level people cycling them on and off, the roids and masking agents would have definite behavioral effects. However, he was a state wrestling champ and a tough dude, so would not recommend that George McKaskey get within 10 feet of him without security.

I guess I had no idea Olin was a legend and his perceived sleights have really upset him and his people.
