Dave Wannstedt- NO

Dave McGinnis- Never really happened. Probably a good thing in hindsight.

He didn't become chairman until 1999, does he have to own the Wanny hire?

Why would you view him as a failure? Both of his head coaches won CoY, both made the playoffs, they built a SB roster and had a stretch where they were beating the Packers.

Talking about the Chicago Bears, not the Carolina Panthers.
"Pretty successful" is relative in your evaluation.

We aren't bringing the Halas years back anytime soon. The Bears have fallen off a cliff since Curious George has taken over.

It seems to me Ted Phillips took over. Didn't Michael bring him in?

He was there in the early 80's. I think he got promoted because of the shit stadium deal.

Whatever. He's the real cancer. He's the guy who's made himself invaluable cuz he runs the entire financial infrastructure of the organization and the family. The McKlaskeys come into his office one by one and politely ask for their checks.

I said this in the other thread....
Michael was supposed to be the smart, genius child. He had a nice career as an Academic but it's safe to say he was a complete failure as Chairman of the Board.

Yes....the Bears won the Super Bowl while Michael McCaskey was chairman of the board. The '85 Bears won because of Jim Finks....who was put in place by George Halas. Michael had nothing to do with that.

Michael McCaskey Career Highlights:
1. Failed to negotiate stadium deal with the City of Chicago
2. Dave McGinnis

Micahel McCaskey was an embarrassment. George is now trying his best to prove he can be a bigger embarrassment, but hasn't quite succeeded yet.

McCaskey didn't become chairman until 1999. His 12 years as chair is far better than Curious George's 11 years. George would have to win the SB next year to surpass Michael's run. It literally isn't close.

I did realize I mis-spoke....Michael was President, not chairman...you are correct.

That being said...the Bears won the Super Bowl because of Jim Finks and the team he built. Michael had nothing to do with Jim Finks. Michael's accomplishments as Chicago Bears President and / or Chairman are ZERO. With zero accomplishments he carries 2 major failures.

George will end up with zero accomplishments but hold with zero failures. They have their stadium. They're about to make a very wise investment on a new stadium site. It's hard to say George is worse than Michael....George is trying to be worse, but he hasn't gotten there yet.

The Bears only hired 2 head coaches and 2 GM's in Michael McCaskey's 12 years. Both coaches won Coach of the Year and went to the playoffs. Lovie took the team to the SB. Hatley and Angelo drafted really well and put together playoff and SB rosters. I would call that a success despite not winning it all.

Curious George is on his 4th coach and 3rd GM. The team has only made the playoffs once and has NEVER won a playoff game.

There is no way that you can compare their records as chairman and say that Michael did a worse job.

He wasn't named chairman until 1999, but he was running the team well before that. He's the guy who (rightly) decided to fire Ditka and bring in Wanny.

He was given the ceremonial title of Chairman after the McGinnis debacle.

He hired Wanny.

And at the time he hired him, Wanny was the most sought after candidate that off season for a head coaching job. Everyone who had an opening wanted to interview him. Michael stepped up and got him first.

It just didn't work out.

Didn't Michael McCaskey openly weep when he was announcing Ditka's firing?

I'm sure Hub was right there with some tissue and a shoulder to cry on.

What is this thread? Michael McCaskey was just in a ceremonial role after the McGinnis and Gary Bears fiascos. It's like saying a ficus plant in the corner had a successful tenure.

Nas is just bored while he waits on the next coach and his 17-0 prediction for next year.
