That's not what happened. The Sullivans were arguably worse than the McCaskeys and even more broke. They sold the team to St. Louis interests who were trying to move the team there, which is why the Jones Dome always had red and blue seats, but they sold Foxboro Stadium to Kraft separate from the franchise, and Kraft was able to keep the team from moving to St. Louis. Also, the pre-Brady Kraft years were mostly a shitshow, too, with Handjob Bob and his dumb kids running Parcells out of town.

It's not that they hired outside consultants. It's that they hire old out of touch outside consultants. Polian's thoughts on Lamar Jackson are disqualifying out of the gate.

Why outsource the business of football to a consultant when your business is football?

Consultants have no skin in the game. Anyone can just list the names of the directors of pro personnel or whatever and send them around.

That's good info....I did not know that.
The thing is....Robert Kraft was smart enough to realize he made a mistake with Parcells. Many cannot do that.

Long read, but a good one.
I seem to recall someone reporting in 2001 that the consulting group actually recommended Ted Sundquist and Phillips picked Jerry Angelo.
Regardless, this explains in detail a lot of what we can all mostly remember with numerous years of lame-duck coaches.

The only answer is the Bears need to be sold. This article is a strong supporting argument.

You shouldn't outsource it completely. But it is useful to have an outside voice sometimes.

Personally, I would have hired a President of Football Operations first. But if the guy you want doesn't want to work full time then hiring him as a contractor for five months isn't the end of the world if it is the right guy.

Scotty Bowman is an example.

I find Nagy skipping a meeting with Mitch pretty dubious.

I am debating a subscription to this service. I appreciate the quality, long form journalism. I just worry I cannot fit it into my daily reading schedule.

Quite the opposite. The Times plans to invest more into them. The Times is highly profitable and made $150m in the first nine months of 2021.

I enjoyed reading it but it was an extremely slanted, anonymously sourced hit piece. There’s plenty of that out there for free.

I think 99% of the anonymous sources are Nick Foles.

I’d guess Mitch trubinsky’s mom contributed. Probably Allan Robinson too.

I posted this in the Athlatic/NYT acquisition thread, I signed up,for the Athletic for Joe Posnanski, but even after he left I kept my subscription because every time I go to the Athletic I can easily find quality writing about interesting topics.

As with all things from the Athletic they spill tons of words to tell you what was painfully evident if you watched the games.

The site does give employment to the little dudes that memorized all the stuff off the back of the baseball cards back in the day and is like the Elephant graveyard for former newspaper people, giving the score hosts "smart experts" to fill time, so suppose it use somewhat useful.

Makes on wonder what the issues were with Hicks at the end of the year. Did Hicks confront this fucking coward and get into it with him?

Thanks for the article. Hub is the king of "Nagy is a great guy" club. I noticed Thayer really soured on Nagy big-time starting mid season being unusually negative about him being the teams radio guy.

Hicks threw down with one of the defensive coaches. He seems like a good player when he wants to be and a lazy piece of shit when he wants to be. I would only give him 1 year incentive laden deals going forward.

Sports talk radio going hot and heavy on this today.

It sounds like the hosts must be reading posts here because heard almost the exact same takes on the radio that were posted here yesterday.

Nobody is really talking about why nobody on sports talk radio was able to delve in and find out these issues as they were happening, but anyone that watched the games could see the offense wasn't working, but the dolts covering the team kept protecting Nagy.

Yep

Like a glitch in the fucking matrix. This is just going to keep cycling until Virginia dies and the team gets sold.

That’s far too clever for a sports talk radio caller. I would be “the McCaskeys should move their team to the clown store because they are a bunch of clowns.
