Of course he withdrew, they arent even doing the process right. Coaches are being interviewed before the GM is in places. So if Dodds got the job would get a list of coaches already vetted and he gets to point to the one he likes? Does Micky Loomis get a say? What a shit show, oh right per RDFC I'm not allowed to be negative.

They just lost to the fucking Jaguars. With their season on the line. And they have buyers remorse on their QB.

Same. Way too much of a personality for them to hire.

I know the Colts aren't good enough for BitchandMoan Bob, but there's something there on that Colts team. Their trajectory is up. I like Ballard and I like how they've been drafting.

The Bears are already fucking this up like we knew they would. An Assistant GM doesn't pull out of this job without a legit red flag.

This certainly doesn't look good.

Not being able to pick his coach seems most likely given the way these bumbledicks operate.

The only way this works is if you hire a power coach like Reid, (or Harbaugh!) that picks his GM. Jesus Ginny should have done coat hanger abortions on all her kids.

Right, that's why I was optimistic at the beginning of the interview period that Harbaugh was in play. He's the only superstar currently available, the only guy a team coulk justify inverting the hiring process for.

If the search committee is insisting on hiring a coach themselves--or on limiting the candidates the new GM can consider--that seems crazy.

People were upset that the Bears were looking at Colts people now they are upset that a Colts guy dropped out

Based on what? The Giants have a shit roster and maybe more internal issues than the Bears. Then the Vikings are the Vikings. A shit organization that has never won a championship and they have a $45M cap hit for Kirk Cousins next season.

Hub was gassing up Smith in that interview with Kap where he comments on the brief Harbaugh phone call.

Given his…ummm…closeness to the organization, maybe there’s some smoke there.

If you're a GM candidate, do you want to answer to Ted Phillips or do you want this:

If you aren't sold on Fields, or even have concerns then the Bears job is probably the worst.

What does that even mean? None of these candidates are known commodities. They're all going to answer to ownership. Ryan Pace was also given the ability to reshape the scouting and personnel department without having a VP over him. Congratulations to the Giants for offering the same thing that the Bears have offered for well over a decade.

Maybe its a ruse.

Pace was saddled with John Fox, and he didn't speak up enough or fight enough to hire his own coach. Maybe the Bears want a guy who is going to say, "If I'm the GM I answer to nobody regarding the roster. I'm the guy and thats it. I draft who I want, and I hire the coaches I want. Period." That's the type of fight I would want in my GM.

Of course, George and Ted would probably tell somebody like that to go pound sand. Or have somebody else deliver the message ala Bruce Arians.

About ownership interfering in football ops? I genuinely hadn’t seen that.

The NY Giants have won 4 Super Bowls. the Bears have have won 1 Super Bowl.
The NY Giants have won their 4 Super Bowls all AFTER the Bears won their single Super Bowl in 1985.

and as FF posted....The Giants are going about cleaning up their most recent mess the correct way
1. Hire the GM first. That GM will hire and be accountable for the next head coach
2. The new GM will have full authority over football operations

Neither of these are true with the Bears.

The Bears are a fucking laughing stock.

Ryan Pace had full authority over the football operation. Supposedly some of his changes were good. He also got to make whatever draft picks and acquisitions that he wanted. He hired Nagy and signed off on Fox. THIS is the same thing that the Giants are allegedly offering and you're celebrating because they aren't the Bears.

Are you aware of the internal problems that the Giants have had?
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nj.com ... utType=amp

Have you seen their roster?
https://www.espn.com/nfl/team/depth/_/name/nyg

As we've seen with the Bears over the past decade, none of these moves matter if your GM and head coach aren't good.
