Which scouting, personnel, draft, roster or coaching decisions did the Ted or George veto?

It's better to just say that you don't like George or Ted than claiming things to be true about other organizations that are verifiably false.

When Pace was hired he was given a head coach he had no say in hiring.

Also, Dan Pompei says in his Athletic article that Teddy has say in football decisions, so it's clear Pace didn't have full authority.

They vetoed a hire that he wanted to make or he simply off on a hire that was recommended to him by the guy who recommended him?

He reported to Teddy. The new guy reports to George. The Giants currently have a VP in place and an owner who have fucked everything up since their father passed away.

and as FF posted....The Giants are going about cleaning up their most recent mess the correct way
1. Hire the GM first. That GM will hire and be accountable for the next head coach
2. The new GM will have full authority over football operations

Neither of these are true with the Bears.

The Bears are a fucking laughing stock.

As bad as the Giants are, the owner of the team, John Mara, came out at the conclusion of the season and admitted that ownership has handled the last several hires terribly and that his team is an embarrassment. He made it clear they are hiring the GM first, let that person hire his head coach and scouting guys, and allowing the head coach to hire his own coaching staff. None of them are tied to any QB. Daniel Jones will likely be gone after next year and they can address QB then. And they have a boatload of draft picks. The team is fucking horrible but whoever this GM is they hire is going to get freedom to make changes (except for the salary cap issue, that's gonna take some work).

The Giants have won two super bowls since Wellington Mara passed away. Yes the team is a mess currently but they have had some success since John Mara took over. Firing Tom Coughlin and Jerry Reece is when things went south for the Giants.

That's not the story I've heard. Ernie Accorsi recommended Fox to Pace and he agreed. It has never been reported that Pace wanted Coach ______ and was told no.

Those guys were in the organization prior to the old man passing away. The infrastructure for winning was already in place and Eli just needed to win the lottery twice.

Not yet. President John Mara - VP Kevin Abrams - GM vacant. Mara clearly stated the GM will be in charge of all football decisions upon his hiring. Can I say for sure that will happen? Of course not, but if it does, that is a pretty good opportunity.

How did Ernie Acorsi continue to get hired after all of these shit consulting decisions. Yikes!

On November 9, 2012, Accorsi was hired by the Carolina Panthers as a consultant after general manager Marty Hurney was fired.[21]

On December 29, 2014, it was announced that Accorsi had been hired by the Chicago Bears as a consultant for their general manager search after Phil Emery was fired.[22] That search resulted in the hiring of Ryan Pace. On November 25, 2015, Accorsi was named a consultant for the Detroit Lions' search for a new General Manager.[23]

On December 4, 2017, John Mara stated in a press conference that Accorsi would assist the New York Giants in hiring a replacement for former general manager Jerry Reese.[24]

On January 9, 2019, Michael Bidwill stated in a press conference that Accorsi had assisted the Arizona Cardinals in hiring Kliff Kingsbury as head coach.[25]

Accorsi was named as a special adviser to the team on January 10, 2016, after he assisted the Lions in their search for general manager Bob Quinn

That may be true, but clearly John Mara didn't fuck it up and they won two super bowls. I'm no John Mara fanboy, these are dark days, but my point is that he seems to realize the hiring cycles in recent years have been disasters and this time they are taking it to the ground.

Just give him 10 million dollars, let him pick a GM and be done with it.

There's enough smoke out there it's clear Harbaugh would leave if the money gets offered. It'd be hilarious if that clown Mark Davis outmaneuvers the Bears.

Wouldn't even be an outmaneuver. He would offer Jim what it takes to get the job. George won't.

Jim Caldwell's name getting out there on the Bears job.

The idea that the Bears are cheap is laughable.

I'm fine with a 70 year old Caldwell as an offensive coordinator, I don't like him as a head coach.

The Raiders are just doing their due diligence to avoid getting in trouble for the Rooney Rule but he's off to the Raiders unless the Michigan billionaires come in with a bigger contract offer.

The Bears don't seem to be the kind of franchise to pay Harbaugh $11 million a year though.

If they come out of this search with another John Fox I am going to be pissed.

No thank you on former Lie Downs trash

The Bears recently outbid the Packers and others for Thieving Mack (then gave him a record deal) and they spent over $100M for a facility because Ryan Pace thought it was a good idea. I have no doubt that they would pay what it took to get Harbaugh IF he wanted to come to Chicago.

Don't ever lose the Kool-Aid, Nas....Don't change!

I don't think it's a matter of being cheap, it's a matter of incompetence and understanding where to invest your money. The pre-Ricketts Cubs are a good example. MANY liked to say the Cubs were cheap....they weren't cheap on players salaries, but they were cheap on the supporting infrastructure scouting, and research, and development. That changed with Theo and Ricketts.

I do not believe for one second, George and Ted Phillips would invest behind the scenes in the best-level research, scouting, facility. Will they pay players and stay within reasonable salary ranges? Yes...they kind of have to.

This isn't kool-aid. These are literally facts.

The Bears just spent over $100M on a state of the art facility. Any behind the scenes research would cost significantly less than that or whatever money Mack will steal next season.

Spending hasn't been the problem. Spending a shit load of money for the wrong players and hiring the wrong people have been.

Harbaugh will cost them a lot. Top of the line coaching pay. Caldwell will be happy to get another head coaching shot . He'll come relatively cheap.

There is a salary cap, that is just mismanaging money. There is no cap on coach or gm..the bears wont give somebodyv10 or 12 mill

I like Harbaugh and want Harbaugh to be the coach. However, if the Bears give Harbaugh $20M a year and he fails to win, fans will still call the Bears cheap and complain about the Harbaugh hire.

Paying more for quality is outmaneuvering. Getting beat by a clown like Mark Davis for a former player who happens to.be the hottest candidate is further proof nothing has changed.

Vegas is a better job, Harbaugh wife from vegas too. The mccaskeys could fuck up a cup of coffee, inept clowns.

The Raiders organization is just as dysfunctional as the Bears....I hate the McCaskeys and Ted Phillips as much as anyone, but let's not inflate the competency of the Raiders....they're pretty fucked up as well.

What we do know is the Bears are following Einstein's Theory of Stupidity. Once again...they've hired an old out of touch retired exec to hire for them.
They're also looking at head coaches and could very well hire one of them essentially neutering the next GM they hire.

I agree, Nas, it's unfair to call the Bears cheap, but they're showing zero sense of competency here.
