P&S were saying that the Bears shouldn't let Quinn leave the building yesterday if they wanted him, since he was scheduled to go to Minnesota for another interview. Since there hasn't been an announcement of hiring Quinn, I guess the Bears were willing to take that chance.

It also sounded like Poles was the one who gave his list of three HC candidates (Caldwell, Quinn, Eberflus) to the Bears instead of those "finalists" coming from the Bears committee. Not sure if that's the case or if Poles will bring in some other candidates.

According to Kap it’s in his contract that Poles has final say on everything , can interview and hire anyone he wants . So no meddling from George and Ted .

The Bears seem to really want to push that narrative about Poles have completely control. Let's hope that is really happening.

On Parkins and meat yesterday they were saying that they heard that Poles gave the Bears the names of the coaches he wanted to bring back for a 2nd interview before he was hired.

If that is true I would feel better about the process. But we will prob hear down the road it was not reality and the Bears told him who he could choose from or who the head coach was going to be...

I’m going to play cynical asshole here but it wasn’t exactly a secret who the bears had interviewed. What’s to say he didn’t just repeat back to management some guys they’d been reported to have interest in as a way to ingratiate himself?

It could be Nagy/Mitch all over again.

It is the Bears so anything is possible.

You would hope they would learn from their previous mistakes, but we know that does not always happen.

If that’s true then he shouldn’t have taken the job . If he truly isn’t allowed to interview and hire who he wants to hire and is only saying the right things but in reality just continuing with what George and Ted want, he’s cutting his own throat professionally because when he’s fired in three years nobody is going to hire him after that .

True. And he was a guy who seemed to be in demand by other teams so he should not have had to settle for a team that was going to dictate to him what was going to happen.

I hope it is all real. It is a pretty cool story of a guy who was an undrafted FA to the Bears and he works his way up to GM of a team.

According to ________ Ted Phillips does not have any say in Football decisions / operations. We've heard this for years and it's been proven to be a complete lie.

The Bears approached this search exactly as they did the last 2 GM's they've hired and Ted Phillips is still employed by the Bears. It's perfectly reasonable to doubt they've learned from any of their mistakes.

That being said....yes.....Poles had leverage if he was going to be directed in the coach he were to hire. He had a good chance of a different job. We will just have to wait and see.

I'm not doubting he has the power. I'm doubting he had a top 3 without being able to interview these guys or have a relationship with them. Did he spend the past day watching Zoom recordings?

Well he probably had the time to because we know he gets into the office pretty early

He withdrew his name from all other coaching jobs. He only wanted the Bears job apparently.

Can't blame him. He can take the job he wants, or stay in Dallas to run the defense and face virtually zero heat because Mike McCarthy is the Caller Bob of NFL coaches.

Or he was the guy the Bears wanted but he chose to stay put and Eberflus was the 2nd choice.

He was allowed to go home yesterday even though he had other interviews. That isn't something that the Bears would do if they were going to offer him the job.

They would if he went through the interview process and ultimately determined he wasn't interested. Who knows how the interview went down? Maybe he didn't like the new GM or perhaps he wanted more say in personnel than was being offered. It really doesn't matter anyway because it was a bit of a crapshoot with all of these candidates and who's to say whether he was any better than Eberflus.

Quinn left the Bears and went to MN to interview with the Vikings. He then decided to remain in Dallas. I wonder if Quinn felt that the new GM wasn't a fit because of his rumored reliance on data. Or if Quinn wasn't a fit for the new Vikings GM, but they had already scheduled the interview.

Jerruh out there saying Quinn turned down a HC job to stay in Dallas.

Now, I’m sure that’s bullshit, but supposin it ain’t…quinn was a finalist for two jobs: bears and broncos. Either Denver made an about face and decided to go offense with Hackett, or Eberflus was the beneficiary of Quinn’s alleged decision.

Hearing that Poles apparently pissed off Polian by not including him in the HC decision. This makes perfect sense because Poles ass will be on the line in a few years if the HC sucks while Polian likely has already made sure his calendar is open from November to January of 2026 so he can get himself another nice paycheck helping the Bears do this again.

Interesting information is leaking out about the Bears hiring process and if half of it is true it sounds like Polian guided most of the process with George and Ted along for the ride, the others in the group were just there to make the process seem more inclusive.

Gonna take a healthy swig of Naz's Bears Kool Aide and hope they actually got the GM hire right this time. In picking a DC as HC it seems they will rely on the new HC to maximize whatever is left of an aging, yet undeniably talented D, while investing cap space and draft capital in upgrading the offense, especially the Oline. Would also assume a DC would favor a more balance offensive approach than the goof ass Nagy who got lost during games and completely abandoned the run, making his offense predictable and easy to defend. The fact that the new GM is a former offensive lineman also is encouraging because he may actually recognize the need to invest heavily in both lines and not reach for WR/TE in early rounds.
