and of course, they won't release the date for part 2. and these first 7 episodes are basically a cheap tease for what's probably going to be another underwhelming finale of a show that has basically defied the sense of logic of reality to an absurd degree.

it's funny how many reddit posts use the word "unrealistic" (in a form of a question, as if they're questioning their own sanity) when talking about the show. of course you have to suspend your disbelief for any fictional show. but there are so many things that cannot happen in anything but "ozark" with ozark logic.

in what other reality of anything, fictional or non, does a mob boss's son get his dick blown off, and the person who does it not only lives, but somehow still has a hold on their own drug trade against an entire mexican cartel? or a 14-year-old kid is able to design his own money laundering software (microsoft paint by frank sheeran?). or a local sheriff goes missing and it doesn't get picked up by national media attention.

the PI is almost an identical clone of the original FBI character. maya, the new FBI character, would've been fired ten times over for what she did. and javi is a complete rip off of lalo from BCS.

the show is packaged so it looks cool and cool things happen but once you start asking questions on anything regarding how it could happen, it really falls apart fast.

i'd say this show couldn't end fast enough but since netflix is in such a bind with desperation they'll probably milk this for another year before releasing the *real* final season, which is just the second half of episodes.

:D :D out of :D :D :D :D for "part 1".

They've already said it will be released this year.

Really smart people (young and old) create software to launder money. Cartels and mobs have their hands in casinos and other businesses. Small town sheriffs look the other way when it comes to drug crimes. Our politicians have been criminals or compromised by criminals since our country has existed. Our government has looked the other way or made shitty deals with criminals for centuries. Everything inbetween is just entertainment.

I really enjoyed the first 7 episodes. I do not need my shows to be realistic to entertain me. I did notice the thing about the PI and the first FBI agent and the nephew being like the guy from BCS.

But I have really enjoyed the show overall. I did not care for the stuff with Ben during season 3. But for the most part I have been engaged and entertained throughout. Looking forward to the last 7.

They even threw in the undetectable software being used to change votes for the Hillary and Trump supporters.

Zack nailed it. I stopped watching this show years ago because frankly its the most ridiculous show Ive ever seen. I went back over xmas-nye break and caught up. Its entertaining enough but I cant call it a great show whatsoever.

Another point on stuff he mentioned - we’re to believe Marty is one of the best money launderers who has ever lived but his 14 year old son writes his own money laundering software and casually mentions to Ruth “I made a few tweaks, mine’s better”. Lol sure it is.

Yes and no.

Its clearly a weaker BB ripoff and that reputation is earned. It could’ve been a great show with the right writers tho. Ruth > Jesse as a character, the writers just couldn’t bring her to her ceiling like the BB writers did with Jesse

Of course it is not close to BB. Anyone that thinks so is insane.

But it is an enjoyable show, and it entertains me.

I agree with your last sentence but there’s definitely a contingent of people who think this is an all time great show and i can only shake my head and laugh at that

ruth started out as a fantastic character. garner is the only reason why ruth is still watchable because that character has devolved into just screaming "fuck" every 5 seconds.

this show always looked not quite good enough for me to invest time in and it sounds like I was right.

I like it and still find it entertaining. It’s not always coherent and seems to rely a bit too much on the strong, powerful female trope, but it has some great characters and the setting is pretty cool.

The ep 7 cliffhanger was genuinely surprising in a way that worked with the plot for once.

I would highly recommend it. Is it as good as Breaking Bad? No, but as long as you don't expect a hyper realistic storyline, I think it is worth your time for the characters, scenery/atmosphere, and suspense.

The list of shows, that most people think are great, that I haven't watched is pretty long. I watched The Sopranos and The Chappelle Show for the first time last year.

The pilot is really good and will give you an idea of whether you would like the show. (Of course, it gets even better in later seasons.)

It's not in the category of all-time greats but in comparison to the shows that are out there now...it's very good.

There's a lot of great shows out these days. More than ever. I try to only watch great shows or at the very least very good shows.

I'd be interested to see how people rate it compared to some of the better shows these days.

Ozark for me always seemed to be in that ok/pretty good category with shows like Peaky Blinders. Granted I never saw either of those, just basing it on everything I read and hear about them.

I’d put Ozark up there in terms of Netflix shows, which I generally think are a step below most premium cable shows.

Maybe behind Narcos’ better seasons but on par with shows like Stranger Things and House of Cards (before the latter got Spacey’d).

There are 4 seasons total.

If you can get past almost the entire first season being boring as shit and totally suspend disbelief for what could have been the laziest writing of a finale ever then this is the show for you.

It is more than a little amusing that people who criticize Ozark for its lack of realism also often champion Breaking Bad without commenting on its unrealistic elements, which, in my view, extend well beyond the finale.

I've watched 4 episodes since I made that post. I'm trying to be patient, but I don't think the show is good and I'm surprised that MANY were complaining about how unrealistic Ozark is, but are champions of this show.

I never finished Breaking Bad. I never made it past episode 5 or 6 actually. When you can't grab my attention by then it's time for me to move on. That being said I tuned into the finale because it had alot of (undeserved) hype around it. What I witnessed was one of the dumbest fucking scenes in television history with the machine gun in the car and I've been mocking it ever since.

I do find it best to watch 7 episodes of a long running series and form a lasting opinion based on that.

If the first season sucks, why should I watch season 2? NOTHING believable has happened besides them having a party for a 50 year old man.
