This is amazing. I really wonder if he is going to take the gig officially when Phillips retires.

Phillips isn't retiring until after they move. Conservatively that is three years. I think it will be five.

Now this is very interesting. I kind of wonder if Ballard and Reich gave sterling recommendations to Eberflus because he really is great, because they wanted to get rid of him, or some combination thereof.

Eberflus was told he had to adjust his defensive scheme last season because opposing offenses were completing 71% of their passes against the Colts. To his credit, Eberflus made the change, but he apparently only did so due to Ballard's intervention. This sounds like the kind of defensive coach who is a candidate to be fired--that is, unless another team swoops in to "steal" him first.

Mully, Haugh and Biggs are saying that Eberflus is bringing four members of the Colts defensive staff with him. This is very curious.

I hope Eberflus manages to bring in Marinelli as defensive line coach.

Marinelli makes Caldwell look like a kid.

Yeah, but he wouldn't be head coach.

They're going to need a bigger checkbook.

McKlaskeys probably have no idea what Ted makes.

There have been rumors circulating on Twitter that Phillips will retire in the next 6-12 months.

In this vein, Omar Khan was purportedly brought in to interview for team president rather than GM. Trace Armstrong has also been mentioned as a candidate.

I don't believe they will close on the Arlington property in 2022. I'm thinking early 2023.

Ted Phillips retiring is highly unlikely.....I don't see it.

Omar Khan to replace Phillips makes a lot of sense, but Phillips has zero reason to retire at this point.

Maybe he doesn't want to work beyond the age of 65.

That said, it has obviously also been rumored that the Bears will bring in a president of football operations to work alongside Ted.

Omar Khan is interviewing now to replace the Steelers GM. He is retiring after the draft.

I thought Khan had been passed over for someone else.

Joe Morehood, (the head coach of Miss State when Getsy was OC there) is on the Score now and confirmed that HE, not Getsy, called plays at Miss State. So our offensive coordinator, has NEVER, EVER called plays in the NFL or College. Yeah that's not good.

Bears just need their first time GM, first time coach, first time play caller/OC to all click and mesh well with a 2nd year QB.

What’s not to like?

Literally everyone in Chicago Media is telling us how great this is, not even the slightest bit of tepid response, nothing could go wrong!

Why didn't they interview Josh McDaniels?

Too confrontational for King George, Flores likely didn't get the gig for the same reason.

The supposed offensive genius they had in place almost got his rookie QB killed and had the team dead last in offense, Getsy will likely be much more successful by simply ditching shotgun run plays, calling at least one bootleg pass per drive, and calling a screen pass at least once per half.

Yes. Throw in some play-action and some quarterback sweeps a la Buffalo, and you instantly have a more viable offense than anything Nagy drew up.

If Poles believes in investing in the offensive line, that alone will be a drastic improvement.

We’ll see. He can’t be much worse than Nagy, we just have no idea now as the guy has never called plays in his professional life.

True, but he did prepare Jordan Love for future stardom...so there's that.

The Getsy pick is almost more important than the HC pick. He will have to either develop Fields or help them make a quick decision to move on, and will need to help them rapidly evaluate the offensive roster in order to make quick decisions on each position.

The defense should still be at least and upper 1/3 of the league unit, but lifting the offense to at least a competitive level is key if they want to improve a win or two next year, and that may be all it takes to win in a division that likely is significantly weaker next year, especially if Rodgers leaves Green Bay.

Eberflus not focusing exclusively on defense will help too.

Where will all the offensive plays come from? Getsy has never called plays, but does that also mean he's never designed any? Do the Bears still own Nagy's playbook and might look to carry it over for continuity sake, in which case Getsy will just learn that system?

Too much learning on the fly for all these guys.

From all of the people talking about him the last few days it seems his strength as almost being a personal coach to certain players and position groups. He is good at putting players in a position to showcase their strengths. As far as the GB passing game goes Adams was outstanding with him as a coach however Adams was outstanding before he was his coach. The rest of the wr's he has had have been completely unremarkable. Tonyan was the only guy that stood out in the passing game but that was for 1 year. Going from that specialized shit to being responsible for creating, teaching, implementing and then calling plays will be quite the task. He is going to need some coaches with experience on his staff to help out with the line and the run game.

Yahoo pushing the "Match Made in Heaven" articles already with this guy and Justin Fields.

Maybe everyone should send manure to Hallas Hall as a clear message. I'm being serious.

I am not too upset until we see the actual playing. That said I would really like more details of the offense execution and play calling.
