I'm slightly concerned that he hasn't hired a seasoned coach on offense or defense yet.

Definitely. I would imagine he wants to bring in Marinelli as well.

If he were coaching DBs. A lot of these guys are under 40/young and have limited or no experience in their new position. Maybe that will work.

According to Adam Jahns of The Athletic, there was a tiny wrinkle in the plan. They weren’t the only team that had offered Eberflus a head coaching job. The Jacksonville Jaguars had already done the same. So when he got the news from the Bears, he ended up sitting down with his wife at home, and they had a conversation about the decision. After a half-hour of deliberation, they knew the right course of action.

IT WAS 9 A.M. IN THE EBERFLUS HOME AND A DECISION WAS ABOUT TO BE MADE. EBERFLUS DISCUSSED WHAT’S NEXT WITH HIS WIFE, KELLY.

“WHEN I FOUND OUT I WAS THE BEARS COACH, IT WAS ME AND MY WIFE,” EBERFLUS SAID. “OBVIOUSLY, JACKSONVILLE IS IN PLAY. CHICAGO WAS IN PLAY. AND YOU’RE GOING, ‘A-OK, I NEED ABOUT 30 MINUTES.’ SO I’M SITTING DOWN THERE WITH KELLY. … WE LOOKED AT THE OPTIONS. AND WE SAID, ‘OK, I’LL GO WITH BEARS.’”

Unless you have a helicopter to fly somewhere after work each day, Jacksonville is one of the most depressing excuses for a city in America.

He doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who needs a lot of intellectual stimulation.

Give him a giant house on the water, a sweet new truck, a white board to workshop acronyms, and let him focus on football all day…that should be enough no matter the locale.

His wife and daughters would probably want just a little more.

The Jaguars hired Urban Meyer. The Bears organization is a shit show but they're not even that stupid. So yes....the Bears are a better option compared to Jacksonville.

Then yeah....Jacksonville as a city...woof.

Poor Bob.

Quote:
Quote:
The Athletic paints the story, noting that on Wednesday, Harbaugh was indeed on track to become the next Minnesota head coach, but somewhere down the line, things took a drastic turn.
At first, the interview seemed like it was going well. Harbaugh saw the Vikings’ gleaming new practice facility and the team started to see some of the coach’s most redeeming qualities.

A buzz reverberated through the building. Is this really happening? Are we really going to hire Jim Harbaugh?

Harbaugh started to feel it, too. He left Ann Arbor believing he was not coming back, and as the process got rolling, it started to look like he would be in Minnesota to stay.

But the Vikings had some hard questions to ask. They wanted to know more about his style and ability to work with others. They wanted to know more about how things ended with the 49ers. They wanted to hear his vision for leading this team back to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1977.

Sometime around 3 p.m., for reasons that are not exactly clear, things started to take a left turn. The tenor started to change, and if there was any momentum at Harbaugh’s back as he tried to secure the job, it disappeared.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m. CT, ESPN first reported that Harbaugh called Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel to tell him he was coming back to the Wolverines for the 2022 season and beyond.

The reason had nothing to do with money or a contract because the Vikings did not offer Harbaugh the job, sources said. There do not appear to be any hard feelings on either side — just a realization that this was not the right fit.
Looks like I was right too regarding Harbaugh at the Bears. Just not a fit.

Not a fit because both the Bears and Vikings don't REALLY want to win. They are stupid organizations. If Rodgers leaves the NFC North is going to be brutal next season. 8 wins might put a team on top.

Why the obsession over cultural "fit" if that culture has been nothing but losing? If you really want to change things, bring in someone that doesn't fit your culture, a "disruptor".

The Bears might well not have had the issues that the Vikings did with Harbaugh. The Vikings were just coming off a meatball coach who wouldn't say hello to people in the hallway and hadn't spoke with his GM in 3 months. Harbaugh isn't that much of a curmudgeon, but enough so that management wanted him to talk through 49ers debacle and in the end, they parted ways with no deal offered.

The Bears coming off Club Dub and 2nd in the NFL during the Nagy era for stupid penalties might have wanted some of that meatball. They got it with Eberflus, just an unproven version.

It was clear to MANY of us that there was zero chance the Bears would hire Harbaugh. Harbough would have been way too outspoken for the Bears "culture". Remember....the Bears didn't regret hiring Nagy and Pace

The point, John Clayton, is that Harbaugh himself probably said "No" to the Bears. You make it seem like George should drive to Ann Abor and force him to be the Bears coach.
