I can’t wait until Hilary Knight misses a breakaway then quits on the team and is lauded for her courage .

Tucker was trying to whip up fake outrage over Eileen Gu competing for China instead of the U.S. the other night. First, she's been with China since 2019. More importantly, she doesn't even participate in a real event. She does something called "freeskiing." In the hierarchy of sports freeskiing falls somewhere between ringsteken and beer pong. She is definitely a darling though. You hate to lose one of those to the godless commies.

I can't be the only person who is fired up for the Olympics? Love the Olympics. There are only a handful of sports I refuse to watch (figure skating, curling, ski jumping). I love the ones where it is 6 snowboarders or skiers lined up and they race down a narrow track with lots of jumps. Those always end with some spectacular pile ups. Also love short track speed skating for the same reason.

My guilty pleasure is cross country skiing. Don't know why, but I really enjoy it. It helps that the announcer treats every second of it like it's the final 5 seconds of a thrilling down to the wire game. Never heard an announcer gets as excited about his sport as this guy does about cross country skiiing.

Plenty of other great sports....downhill skiiing, all the bobsled/luge/skeleton events and I'm probably forgetting a bunch more.

No NHL players which is fine with me. I'll actually be watching the women's hockey for selfish reasons. As a coach for the old man Maccabi team next summer in Israel, there isn't a sport out there that resembles old man no check hockey better than elite women's hockey. I'll be paying close attention to see what systems they are running and if they are doing anything with the offensive zone cycle that I'm not already aware of.

With events happening overnight I'll be going off the grid like I always do so you won't see me posting in here much since I'll usually be about 16 hours behind the coverage.

You are coaching next year shakes?

That is awesome.

One of my favorite all time stories here was when you regaled us with winning the Gold medal at the Maccabi Games.

yep, too crippled to play anymore so I'm coaching the over 40 team USA with a teammate of mine from 2013. Had a couple tryout camsp over the summer and had our first training camp last month in Florida. Training camp 2 looking like Los Angeles first weekend in April.

Bringing the wife this time when i go to Israel. She's never been before. Gonna be a fantastic trip if Covid doesn't cancel the whole thing.

Watching chick snowboarding "slope"style, which seems kinda racississist toward the host chinermen, so, fuck yeah.

Before one of the 4 Team America snowboard chick's qualifying run, Julia Marino, they show a video of her and her snowboarder bf building a board park up in her backyard where she moved to train in Kanaydia. They made a big deal out of her having rails right outside her door to go practice on daily.

so of course being a chick snowboarder she immediately faceplants on the first starter rail of her run...she wiped out on the next jump too. not sure how they qualify these folks for the Olympics but maybe try to find some chick snowboarders who can stay upright.

Image

And the next American snowboard chick, Courtney Rummel, wipes out on her run too, wtf

At least they have the horse racing guy covering snowboarding, Randy Moss. Moss providing betting tips on picking winner tomorrow.

damn these chicks are bad at this, even the announcers are griefing their performance, "pedestrian" at best they called it.

Noticed that the male figure skater dude is in nearly every promo on NBC, it seems they always try to identify a male or female figure skater and build coverage around them, guess women like that sport? Maybe they are hoping for another Tanya Harding type event to generate viewership?

It would seem the Nordic countries would dominate the Winter Olympics because they have the right climate and geography for most of the sports.

Odd to see all the Putin coverage and the odd NBC coverage with supposed "China Experts" whispering political commentary you couldn't even hear with all the Chinese kids singing some odd ode to snowflakes? Maybe I'm a bad guy, but snowflakes and fire do not seem real compatible to me? Always hate watching opening ceremonies, but the wife loves them and always wants to watch them, and they are far better than the latest "Sex in the City" thing she likes to watch, so as with most things in marriage you pick your spots.

It's pretty telling how every American athlete is being described as being happy for the experience by NBC hosts in Connecticut.

I sincerely hope that NBC is taking a bath on this.

I typically go into Olympic season saying I’ll never watch, inevitably turn it on while I’m working out and then consider myself an expert on proper form in ski jump or some bullshit by day 4.

That used to be enjoyable, but the overanalysis has helped highlight the sameness of each jump. On to Check Please! and HBO.

Some Dutch TV reporter was yanked off the air by Chinese officials yesterday. Everyone brushed it off like it was no big deal and happens all the time at the Olympics.

If Hitler were in power today, the global community and media would forgive anything.

Marino leader-with-a-cushion after 2nd set of runs. 12 riders, each take 3 runs, best score among the 3 kept.
Marino's at least podium and good shot at gold.

when you hang out with the skiiers at a ski resort they tend to not like snowboarders. maybe it's a culture thing, but i'm sure there's legitimate reasons if you ask.

I haven't watched any of the Olympics but did see a couple highlights on SportsCenter this morning. They had some sort of downhill event that appears it was built right next to a nuclear power plant  Nice.

I have decided to compete for China in the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics. This was an incredibly tough decision for me to make. I am extremely thankful for U.S. Ski & Snowboard ( @usfreeskiteam ) and the Chinese Ski Association for having the vision and belief in me to make my dreams come true. I am proud of my heritage, and equally proud of my American upbringings. The opportunity to help inspire millions of young people where my mom was born, during the 2022 Beijing Olympic Winter Games is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help to promote the sport I love. Through skiing, I hope to unite people, promote common understanding, create communication, and forge friendships between nations. If I can help to inspire one young girl to break a boundary, my wishes will have come true.

give her a break she has good intentions

I’d bet decent money the Chicoms paid her to come to the realization she could inspire people to communicate by skiing for China.

jeez...looks like a case where her parents split and her mom and family drowned her in chinese culture & nationalism. she's a millennial that doesn't make sense - she's loud when a homeless bum attacks an elderly asian woman at a bus stop as proof of racism in the usa, yet competes for china. ok, baby.

i wouldn't cheer for her either.
