Without knowing all of the details, this sure looks like a "Not in my backyard" kind of hypocrisy.

Probably doesn't want any kind of new subdivisions constructed.

What kind of affordable housing are we talking about?

If it’s section 8 I completely understand.

As suspected, it's the same snitches of Joe Rogan that went after Dave Chapelle.

He's against 140 homes at an average of $400G per. What the developer did was throw in less than 2 acres for affordable housing.

Wait so he threw a temper tantrum over $400k homes with 2 acres or less?

That’s not a good look Dave.

Hard to find that acreage in MANY up and coming suburbs.

The entire set aside for affordable housing was 2 acres. I don't know the acreage for the 140 $400K homes.

Oh shit my bad.

That’s def low income/section 8 housing.

What’s the nearest big city?

That’s who would be sending their not so best and brightest to the “affordable housing”.

How much can you put on two acres? A dozen condos?

Not only that, but according to the (unfortunately paywalled) op-ed in Sunday's Trib, Chappelle and others didn't want the suburb to turn into some featureless, sterile suburb with cookie-cutter houses because the crowd it would draw would ruin the town's culture. In this case, the writer says, the culture was one of interracial families and stable integration. It also had a history as an Underground Railroad stop, and Coretta Scott King went to college there and brought her husband to speak there. Chappelle also spent a lot of time there as a kid because his dad taught at the local college (Antioch College).

Nevertheless, MSNBC claimed that Chappelle was "putting wealth ahead of race." Good reporting.

I wonder if our own u/This Endeth in Antioch went to school here, too? I bet he did.

This is why I prefaced "without knowing all the details"....I did look a bit further and his opposition seems pretty legit and consistent.

I mean....who could imagine a real estate developer trying to squeeze out suburban townships. Build -> give the local leaders a taste -> profit -> run. 10 years later the community is fucked on Schools, Roads, Police, Fire, and Rescue. Been done here Lake County hundreds of times over.

Idk, I’ve now skimmed at least two stories and it seems the only difference in the plan he opposed v the plan he’s been silent on is the inclusion of < 2 acres of dense low-income housing as part of the development.

And Antioch has never heard of Antioch College.

Less than 2 acres was dedicated to low income housing, but all you read about is that he killed an affordable housing development. Strange.

As I understand it from the articles I skimmed he didn’t vocally oppose the development until they included that space for affordable houses at the request of the village.

I've read he was opposed to the development from the beginning. Who knows.

Hosting SNL for the 3rd time. He's been doing this after elections. Really looking forward to his monologue.

There are rumors that writers have boycotted this weekend's show. Some say the rumors aren't true. I'd be down for just an hour of Chappelle doing comedy.

Why would the writers boycott Dave Chapelle? You’d think a team of comedians would EMBRACE free speech and humor. They would prefer safe cancel-culture humor?

I'd fire any writer who boycotted one of the few funny hosts they get these days.

https://decider.com/2022/11/10/saturday ... sting-gig/

Quote:
There appears to be some drama brewing over at Saturday Night Live as writers are reportedly boycotting Dave Chappelle’s upcoming hosting gig with musical guest Black Star. The comedian, who came under fire last year for making transphobic and homophobic jokes, is set to host the hit sketch comedy show for the third time this Saturday, Nov. 12.

Sources have told Page Six that certain writers are “so furious” about Chappelle being invited to the show that they are opting out of the episode. They said, “They’re not going to do the show. But none of the actors are boycotting.”

After it was announced that Chappelle would be hosting, SNL writer Celeste Yim reportedly took to their Instagram story to write, “I’m trans and non-binary. I use they/them pronouns. Transphobia is murder and it should be condemned.” However, it is unclear if Yim is a writer planning to sit out of this episode or if the remarks were made in reference to the comedian.

Meanwhile, Chappelle’s representative told the outlet that “there was no evidence of a boycott,” adding, “The room was full of writers. They all pitched ideas and they seemed very excited about it … Dave is looking to have some fun.”

Last year, Chappelle released his sixth and final Netflix comedy special, The Closer, which sparked backlash for “ridiculing trans people” when he joked about trans women and defended comments made by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and rapper DaBaby that were deemed to be transphobic. In a statement to Deadline, National Black Justice Coalition executive director David Johns even called for the streamer to remove the comedy special, claiming, “Netflix should know better,” and that, “Perpetuating transphobia perpetuates violence.”

Transphobia is murder?

Was that released before Louder Than Twinks?

You're not necessarily wrong, Bob.
I'd also factor in jealousy. Chapelle is a talented comedian with a pretty lengthy resume. These clowns can only dream of being half as funny as Chapelle.

No way network TV has that kind of money to toss around. He'd be lucky if he made 1% of that which is still pretty damn good for a week of work. I read an article that says it ranges from $25-525k to host. That is quite a range.
