In Crystal Lake. Went on Saturday night for my Last Supper before surgery lays me up for a couple months. I can't say enough about this place. My buddy and I split a giant Tomahawk Ribeye that came with potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and the best heirloom carrots I have ever tasted. There was more than enough for each of us plus our wives grabbed a couple bites.

Image

Undoubtedly the best wine list in the far Northwest suburbs.

We started with a non-vintage Billecart-Salmon Brut ‘Réserve’ and then had a 2015 Keplinger ‘Sumo’. Both awesome and reasonably priced. We also brought a special bottle from home. Only $20 corkage.

I cannot recommend this place enough.

And Seacrest, the entire menu is gluten-free.

The place sounds great, but is a $20 corkage fee considered cheap?

Well, they have an extensive wine list and if you know, or do a little research, there are some good bargains on there. But restaurant prices are usually about 2-2.5 times retail, more at a downtown expense account place. So if you have a special bottle you want to drink, adding $20 would be a lot less than if the restaurant were selling it. But I would consider it a faux pas to bring your own bottle of something they had on the menu.

My wife probably won't want to go to Iowa just for dinner though

Looks like a nice place. Trying to think if I'll ever find myself in area with my wife to enjoy a dinner without having one of the urchins with us.

Took me only two days as well from the shoulder. Hope it all goes fast. Mine was 9/29 and I was at Top Golf the other day. So good luck. I am no doc but I think it is good it wasn't Achille's?

Thanks, guys. I tore my left quad tendon. I could tell I was going to need surgery just from the way the doctor talked on the day I did it. He diagnosed it with one touch. The MRI just confirmed it.

Anyway, the surgery went well and maybe I'll heal well enough/fast enough that he'll accelerate the timetable at least a little. It feels pretty good today. But he has a strict protocol of just rest and no bending for 6 weeks.

That wouldn't be a whole lot different than sitting in the old Gold Room at Arlington Park. I haven't seen a lot of the old fellas since COVID struck. I'm guessing at least a few haven't come out the other side.

There was a nice old man named Heinz who was in declining health for several years. His wife used to bring him on Saturdays. He went from a cane to a walker to a wheelchair. Heinz loved to bet Paco Lopez horses.

Then there's a guy you may know from Democratic politics, Mike Conway. He is good friends with Hillary. I think they went to Yale Law together and also worked with House Judiciary on the Nixon impeachment. He was at Foley & Lardner. I think he's retired/Of Counsel and maybe teaches at NU.

And there was Mr. Coffey who I know didn't make it.

I'm pushing 60 and still one of the youngest racetrack regulars. doesn't really bode well for the sport.
