Why do Chicago teams enjoy putting their fans through hell?

To make us pay for the enjoyment of all of those beautiful concrete planters in the middle of the roads?

Ya know, that wasn't a horrible idea on third down. Didn't work, but still.

I hope the game against Atlanta and Detroit are easier. If that's possible.

Go D!

I think a lot of people hoped the Bears would go 2-2 in the first four, but they probably would have had the games exactly opposite (wins at Carolina and vs. Tampa, optimistically, and losses at Indy and vs. Philly). Now you go to Detroit and to Atlanta, so you have a chance to stack some wins, then an important game at home vs. Minnesota, who has been less than impressive thus far. With two games against the Lions, plus games against Atlanta and St. Louis, six wins seems safe. If you split the GB and Minnesota games, that gives you eight, which means you probably need one more to make the playoffs. You'd need to win one of these games:

Titans
Jaguars
Saints
@ Texans

The Saints game is at home in December, and if the Texans are out of it they may have nothing to play for. In the NFL nothing is guaranteed, but that's the playoff arithmatic.

The play of the game has to go to Alex Brown. I know they showed that play to death afterwards on the broadcast. But as soon as it happened, I thought 'Buckhalter's going to cross the plane,' until Alex Brown lassos him and holds him back inches from the goal. You pay a defense big bucks to win you big games in big situations, and tonight they pulled through.

Ya know what? Bears should have lost this game. That makes up for one of the two games the Bears should have won in the past two losses..

I was just thinking the same thing. It's funny how that tends to even out over time.

Nice to see them hold on last night. People ma have been suicidal had they blown another 4th quarter lead.

On a side note, the scheduling/injury breaks the Bears have received are amazing. Colts with a hurt/rusty Manning, Carolina without Smith, Tampa without Galloway (h'es not a superstar, but still good) and the Eagles without Westbrook.

He's still got a long way to go, but I think we are starting to see Kyle Orton develop into a slightly below average QB instead of the worst starting QB in the league. This is really his first year of actually being the man, and while he's been bad as much as good, he's showing signs of being a capable starting QB. The O-line was decent, but needs to give him a little more time.

I don't know if Orton is the long term answer and I will still advocate drafting a QB next year since no competing QB's was Angelo's biggest mistake with Rex but Orton is progressing like I had hoped this season. You can only learn so much holding a clipboard. The key now is for Orton to find a way to play a good game, instead of a good half game.

Good to see you back. Is it just a coincidence that Orton had his best game of the year the week you decided to come back?

No, I came back last Friday. Quite honestly, I didn't even get to see games 2 and 3 besides on my phone.

I think Orton's accuracy is an issue, but anyone expecting him to come out of the preseason making perfect throws all the time is being unrealistic. His biggest problem that I saw from highlights was that he was making bad throws, and then not really making any good throws to make up for it. He didn't have much practice on long throws his rookie year because he couldn't make them. Now, he can make them, but not consistently. He misses way too many open throws still, but he's making more of them. He's improving, which is a great sign. I was always interested in seeing what Orton does when he has the benefit of a full training camp and season as the starting QB. That's a huge advantage. If he continues to improve like this, I could see him being considered a top 15-20 NFL QB next year(lots of bad qb's out there). This is his first year as the man, and he's showing flashes that his rookie season is an unfair judge of his talents.

I'm looking forward to seeing if he's hit his ceiling already, or if he is improving as the season goes on. No matter what, Angelo needs to draft a QB to compete with him for the job next year.
