That does not change my statement.

The earliest you could hope for a WR is 3rd round IMO.

Again, I agree but I do think the Bears will be competitive next year.

Competitive with who? They are certainly worse on paper.

I'm not so sure that they are.

Especially not worse then the team that finished the season.

They are spending two 2nd rounders on online? Fields needs guys to throw to

What does that even mean? They are not as bad as the team they fielded when they were out of the play-off picture and guys were sitting or on IR? That's a low bar for any bottom tier team.

How about this: Is the team they will start the season with in 2022 better than the one they did last season? The only way that happens is if Fields takes a huge jump. That's certainly possible but it doesn't seem like that's what you are banking on.

My original post said they were getting a lineman. There are two lines. OL with one DL with the other. Poles wants to build from the line out.

That’s stupid. Put your QB in a position to succeed first, then fix the dline

OL does help him succeed. I would be thrilled if they went OL and WR in the 2nd. But I just don't see Poles doing it. Everything he has talked about has been centered on the importance of the lines.

There aren't many Burrows in the world. Even average quarterbacks can have success if they have time to throw.

If Fields is just average the Bears are screwed

I'm not positive that he's that good. If he sucks, they'll draft a quarterback next year. It's supposed to be a great QB draft.

Would you consider Jay Cutler a good quarterback, above average? Do you honestly think that Fields ceiling is higher than Cutler’s, who couldn’t get anything done with pretty decent offensive talent around him? What do you think Fields does better than Cutler?

He has his pick of any number of underwhelming domers.

Average is grounds for best QB in Bears history.

TO at the Illini game looks in better shape than half the roster. Sign him.

Still a few OT's out there, wondering if they pull the trigger on one of those guys?

Poles obviously has completely different evaluations on the roster, will be very interesting to see how he lines up the OL, right now you have Borom and Jenkins as your tackles with Whitehair and one guard, Lucas Patrick at C, and ? at the other guard? The preferrable lineup would be a yet to be signed FA at LT, Whitehair and gone G with Borom at the other G, Patrick at C, and Jenkins at RT. This would give you a much bigger and more physical OL than you had last year, but of course relies heavily on signing a quality LT. You better be able to run because they will go into next season with a paper thin WR room with Mooney, a few vets that are just bodies, and a key 2nd or 3rd round rookie that must develop quickly and show upside, the TE room is below average at best, and the RB room is average, no real playmakers on the offense other than Mooney and maybe Fields.

The D will be very Lovie like with a bunch of guys that fit the system, still do not have a Tommie Harris, Mike Brown, or Urlacher type playmaker at key positions, and guys with those attributes are rare so must hit on them early in the draft.

It definitely will be a "rebuilding year", and a long term project to reshape the roster, but Poles is taking the painful, but necessary steps required to gut and rebuild, he has also cleared out a ton of cap space for next year which opens up options for the franchise moving forward.

This year will be all about Fields, Poles will need to evaluate him quickly and see how he and the rest of the offensive players respond to competent NFL coaching, tough to evaluate anything on the offensive side given Nagy's incompetent coaching and his even less competent coaching staff.

I liked Borom at RT and I liked Jenkins nastiness. Maybe Jenkins is the guy that you slide to guard if they sign a LT.

I don't think they'll miss him:

Yahoo Sports wrote:
Last season, O’Donnell ranked 23rd in overall punting grade at Pro Football Focus. He was also 31st in net punting average and 32nd in average hangtime.

I couldn't figure out if our coverage sucked or he had too many line drive kicks. He would boom the ball, but the opposing team would have a huge return.
