I find the signing of Siemian strange when you consider how much is still owed to Foles.

Maybe there is another deal in place for Foles.

I don't. IF they find a trade partner for Foles, I believe they will save $8M on the salary cap and have a $2M dead cap hit. If they cut him, they'll save like $3M and have a dead cap hit of $7M. Siemian only cost the Bears $2M per year. They're saving money regardless of what happens with Foles.

According to spotrac.com, they save $3 million against the cap if they release him, $4 million if they trade him.

I think they would have saved an additional $4 million if they had moved him prior to March 21, when his roster bonus kicked in.

So why didn't they launch him prior to giving him his roster bonus?

I think that it is more likely that they find a team that is willing to trade draft capital to take on $4M less of Foles' salary.

@RapSheet
The #Bills will match the RFA offer sheet for OT Ryan Bates, per GM Brandon Beane. It’s a 4-year deal for Bates.

I didn't, it is just fun to see Poles flop. That was his big ticket move, along with Objajanaiwani.

Another good example of Bob not really being a Bears fan, he is a troll who wants attention.

Out

Allen Robinson - a #1 (lower tier #1) but still a #1 WR when healthy and motivated
James Daniels - A very good starting Guard. (Steelers are pretty good judge of talent)

In ?

This idiot has made a bad offense even worse. You lemmings can defend it all you want.

So now Bob says Daniels as a very good starting guard.

Caller Bob wrote:
Bears can spin it all they want but they had to switch because Daniels was shitting himself at center. What makes them think he can play guard? Guards need to be maulers like Q. Nelson.

Pretty sure those quotes on Daniels are years old. He was very good in 2021

We sure have a mensa candidate for GM..."it sucks!" "hopefully something pops up!"

If you really liked Bates, (and he's one of the few remaining options out there) then not take that money you pissed away on Trevor Siemian(seriously what a waste of signing) and put it into the offer for Bates?

Just shows once again you adjust your narrative depending on what the situation is in order to bitch and complain.

When Daniels was a Bear you complained about him several times.

Now that the Bears went a different direction, he is a very good player.

you can continue to paint me as a cheerleader all you want. But the reality is I have been pretty clear. I have liked a couple things he has done and I have not liked some things. The jury is still far from over on this whole situation.

You on the other hand just take every opportunity to bitch and complain.

How can Poles negotiate any deal with a player who can't pass his physical?

In all seriousness, why are they wasting time/money worrying about the backup QB? This isn't a team with an elite defense that could win a Superbowl even if the starter goes down, it's just a waste of money and resources

Well, that at least more or less confirms Nas's belief that the Bears aren't trying to move Fields right now.

I don't know why anyone would trade for Foles now, though, since Poles is telling reporters that the team wants to get rid of him.

It Poles is committed to Fields for 2023, then it doesn't matter if the Bears don't pick up a number 1 WR or improve their Oline significantly this season. If 2022 is simply about installing an offense system that Fields is comfortable in and fixing his throwing mechanics, then Poles has a solid plan. 2023 with all of the cap room and a first round pick will be about putting major pieces around Fields and taking the next steps towards a playoff/division winning team.

If though, 2022 is at all about evaluating Fields as a starting QB going forward, Poles hasn't done much yet to help his QB. But, we still have the rest of FA and the draft to see what happens.

The 2023 QB draft class is supposed to be a good to great one. If the Bears are 5-12 bad and have a top 6 pick, does Poles jettison Fields in lieu of his own guy?

A lot of unanswered questions amid one of the most enjoyable NFL off seasons in recent memory.

Based on his free agency strategy, he's certainly leaving that possibility open.

I think the Bears are going to be looking for a new GM in two years. This guy has Phil Emery dumbassary written all over him.

He's been left with a bad roster and a worse salary cap situation. But he's made a few missteps already: Ogunjobi shouldn't have been his top priority in free agency, he apparently lowballed Brian Allen, he miscalculated on Bates, and he let Foles collect a $4 million roster bonus when he could have used that money better elsewhere (ie, for Brian Allen or Bates). Hopefully the draft and future waves of free agency will go better for him.

You do not really save cap room in the NFL. There is a pretty tight band between the floor and cap. Now you can cut guys and take the dead cap money now to free up subsequent years, but it is not like you can spend half the cap to save up for next year.

What should Poles have done besides trade for Cooper's contract? It really sounds like you loved the direction of Pace and Nagy.

Be glad to he didn't pick up that bum. He's the Marshmelow of the NFL imho

Look at the number of players under contract and dead money in 2022 vs 2023. Poles is going to have a shit ton of money to spend next year. The difference in dead money alone is 37 million.
