Probably not...there are several teams whose #2 is clearly better than Mooney will ever be.

It's funny how much Poles and Eberflus have complimented Mooney. Have they even mentioned Kmet publicly?

True, but Poles seems to dislike the vast majority of the roster he's inherited. Why wouldn't that include Fields?

Colts explored blockbuster trade for 'young' QB, Jim Irsays says: 'In the end, he wasn't available'

PALM BEACH, Fla. — When the Colts decided to cut short Carson Wentz’s tenure after only one season in Indianapolis, they did not have a hard and fast plan to replace him at quarterback.

But the Colts were determined to explore every opportunity.

At least one of those possibilities was a blockbuster trade for a young quarterback, Indianapolis owner Jim Irsay revealed Tuesday at the NFL’s annual owners meetings, that would have required the Colts to give up at least two first-round picks.

“It would have been a trade scenario for a younger guy,” Irsay said. “At least two ones, probably.”

Instead, Indianapolis acquired veteran Matt Ryan from the Atlanta Falcons for a third-round selection.

Irsay didn’t reveal the quarterback’s name, but he did say that Indianapolis discussed the possibility of more than one young quarterback.

Ultimately, only one of those players seemed like a real possibility, at least briefly, for the Colts to make the sort of trade that the Los Angeles Rams made for Matthew Stafford in 2021 and that the Denver Broncos made for Russell Wilson this offseason.

“You know we looked at a young guy or two, it was probably one, but really, in the end, he wasn’t available, after all was said and done,” Irsay said. “For a number of other things happening, reasons, it would have had to been something else happening to make him available.”

I thought the same thing. If true, I guess that would throw cold water on the organization not believing in Fields.

Took a quick look and the Bears have only drafted 2 TE in the last 9 years, it looks like on average almost every other team has at least picked one every other year, the OT situation is similar.

It does seem that no matter who the GM is the Chicago Bears Organization displays an ongoing inability to understand how to build an offensive roster.

Agreed there is zero chance it was Fields.
If there's a young (good) QB out there, I'm thinking more like a Josh Allen or Justin Herbert. Neither team is letting a guy like that go. Kyler Murray?....I wouldn't give up the farm for him, but at the same team if he was on my team, I'm not letting him go, either.

Mooney would be the #1 on Green Bay, they will win 11 games maybe 12.

I wouldnt give up a single first round pick for Murray, he sucks. I think the QB in question was Lamar Jackson.

You think buffalo would consider letting Allen go? The way the article sounded it seemed like a conversation could be had but it didn't go anywhere. I don't think Allen is being dropped in any convo unless the other person is either mahomes or maybe burrow. And even then it's a stretch. Big disagree on Allen and Herbert. I think Murray is plausible because him and Arizona seem to be upset with one another.

No....Buffalo would not let Allen go. Chargers would not let Herbert go.
Those are just the 2 names that came to my mind based on the article. I think it was a Colts BS statement with zero truth.

From his quotes, it sounds like Poles likes kneecap biters.

Almost all of the free agents Poles has signed so far were rookie free agents or Day 3 draft picks. He seems to be trying to change the culture of the team by signing guys who have had to fight their way onto rosters throughout their careers. Hopefully that attempt to develop a competitive ethos will have an impact on the team's level of play because most of these guys aren't going to overwhelm anyone based on their athleticism or skill.

Sound like Poles thinks the Lions are going to be the team to beat in the division and is stacking the roster to counter that.
