Didn't they have any washcloths at Little Company of Mary? They let poor McKinney lie in Intensive Care for two weeks looking like Wojciech Frykowski did after Tex Watson and Susan Atkins got done working him over.

Westhead's press conference was pretty funny. Did he actually start quoting Shakespeare in the real-life presser?

They are really selling the Magic ladies man narrative. I thought black men didn't perform oral.

This show is kind of silly, like a political cartoon where a person's minor flaws are exaggerated to the point of ridiculousness.

Yeah, I thought it was absurd that Westhead would've yelled at the doctor, "Fix him up...he has a game to coach tomorrow!"

McKay had no problem making Jerry West and Paul Westhead look like they had 40 point IQs. But showing Magic take it up the butt was a bridge too far.

Portraying Magic's bisexuality would undermine the bifurcated/bifurcating identity politics revisionism that provides the narrative structure for the show.

Terry covered Paul Westhead when he coached the Bulls, and he always said Paul was as dumb as a box of rocks.

I've known plenty of college professors that couldn't communicate with people well.

That said, yes this show does play up all the ridiculous, which is too bad because the real life story is fascinating. But it's still a show that's intriguing to me.

I'd always heard that he was a blithering idiot as well.

And yes, the real story is remarkably fascinating without any embellishments. Having said that, I haven't seen the last few episodes, but is Worthy portrayed as the really big wolf he was?

They're still in 1979.

Based on a book by Jeff Pearlman. I read his hit job book on Walter. So that explains this thing. It's not all McKay's fantasy.

The sex parties they had in Atlanta in the 80s alone were crazy. Magic would lean on friends from LA and they'd fill buses with college girls for the parties.

That was the fifth episode and they're only about 20 games into Magic's rookie year. I think it's only ten episodes total so I'm not sure how deep they're going to get into the Worthy years.

I almost wish that they'd show the Bulls years during the Theus-Dailey period. The stories MJ told in the Last Dance were tame in comparison. I've been told first hand stories about Q that even shocked me. And I remember laughing with/at Theus during the years he roamed my neighborhood.

I'd be interested in a documentary or dramatization of the whole league in the 70s. That was my favorite time for the NBA.

I get that the play became a lot better in the Magic-Bird and then Jordan eras. I think when you watch the fast breaks and the passing on those old videos you can see it was a true golden age until Detroit and the Knicks uglied up the game and that golden age ended. But there's something about the 70s that made it really cool, kind of sleazy, but just awesome.

Certainly a helluva lot more colorful. Someone on a podcast asked awhile ago why none of today's athletes have the individual flair (& nicknames) of those athletes. Hell, even the team owners were more sleazy and interesting.

Just started this. Was Tarkanian really a target to be their head coach? If so, I am surprised he didnt give that a shot. He seemed like a dude who would have loved to try and have a winner in So Cal

I think they made it pretty clear the mafia murdered Tarkanian's buddy as a message because they didn't want him leaving UNLV, they wanted him there in place to continue fixing games.

I'm going to say "NO" to the "history" the mob is killing Tark's buddies to keep him from leaving. And that if Tark left, he'd be killed too.

The more I watch, the more I believe I am actually watching Buss, Magic, and Kareem....even Pat Riley. Very entertaining for what it is.

Well, that was a pretty incoherent episode, even for this deeply confused show. Heretofore Buss has been portrayed as an anal retentive tyrant, yet we're supposed to believe that he neglects to make sure that his ownership transfer documents have been filed correctly? What was the point of showing Magic engage in oral sex? And why are we supposed to regard rich guy Buss as heroic for attempting to screw the rich guy Great Western bankers?

To suggest he got HIV that way. You knew that.

Because it's Winning Time!

What's the point of any of it? It feels like it's produced by National Enquirer.

Because Dr. Buss is a freewheeling rich guy who fingers girls in Dan Tana's and leaves the top five buttons on his shirt undone while the Great Western bankers are uptight white men in pinstripes who never caused an orgasm in their lives, but when the two accidentally got mixed together they formed the greatest combination since the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup and the Great Western Forum became a modern day Colosseum where enslaved gladiators like Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Labor Movement hero Spencer Haywood battled to establish supremacy as the Patrician class sat courtside signaling their approval while their joyful team of indentured Men of Color proved their physical superiority over the lily white racist Boston Death Star lead by slow and tiny Larry Bird and oafish Frankenstein Kevin McHale.
