Which one is closer to death?

Rock music isn't doing well, but it's got to be baseball. I know it's fashionable to obsess over baseball stats, but how many people under the age of 30 will actually watch a baseball game from beginning to end? I would like to think there are people under 30 still listening to rock albums in their entirety. Hell, they sell rock albums at Urban Outfitters.

baseball seems to be pretty healthy in terms of little kids playing, which always trickles up to them at least having a passing interest as adults

Casual fans and their dates will always attend as, even if you have little care about what goes on, its a relatively inexpensive summer night at the park.

Great album. I don't know if it was also recorded in that studio next to the Rainbo on Damen. Peter Buck's other side project The Minus 5's first (maybe only) album cover was a photo of the door to that studio.

Rock has been dead since the late seventies. As soon as idiots like Steve Dahl felt the need to lash out at other types of music, it was an admission of the end. There will always be pockets of life if not rebirth. Even the alleged purists have never missed on the opportunity to crap on newer things like grunge. It's like if it's not an esoteric band, it's schlock to that snooty, no fun crowd.

Similarly baseball will be better once the 50+ crowd is purged from the sport. My generation is far too resistant to change, fun and life in the game. Not to mention the idiotic unwritten rules. It's never ceased to amaze me how averse the old farts are those things. The "National Pastime" label is dead because MANY are so resistant to change. Time to adapt and let the kids run their game.

There will always be "unwritten rules." The only question is what they are.

It's kind of odd that the generation that invented microaggressions and safe spaces and that takes offense at the most minor perceived slight also celebrates embarrassing fellow competitors and defends it as "fun."

I don't really care one way or another about the unwritten rules. They're something for the players to worry about, not the fans. But for the sake of argument, I might use the same defense that is used for political correctness, i.e. the unwritten rules are really just being polite, not being a douchebag. You don't need to rub someone's face in it when you're beating the shit out of them. Right?

Once while coaching regular travel ball I had my kids annihilate and then rub it in during a huge beating. The other team's parents and assistant coaches started to complain. I went to coach third just to explain how much their team manager had screwed my group over for the last two seasons. Between finding out that he'd been cancelling games months in advance and flat out not showing up for a game earlier that season, they ended up confronting their manager after the game for the crap he'd been pulling. I know that the game never got to the bottom of the third. That day it was screw the unwritten rules, my kids were more pissed than I was.

This. They've been saying that about soccer for at least 30 years, and I don't think it's resulted in former rec league soccer players watching a lot of soccer.

Not American soccer but I can say with near certainty that there are more americans watching/showing interest in Premier League than ever.
