weak QB class driving that maybe. main thing teams look to trade up for is a QB but there aren't any QB's in this draft worth expending the extra draft picks to move up for. teams still do deals to move up for other players but the lack of big moves to try to get a QB cascades throughout the draft and makes it a buyer's market? Last year folks were saying 2022 draft picks were worth more than 2021 draft picks because the lack of a combine in 2021 and limited chances to work out players individually due to covid last year.

As far as the Bears are concerned, Poles may have difficulty trading back in the second round due to the excellent perceived depth of this year's draft. A bunch of analysts say that there will be a lot of starting-caliber players available through the mid to late rounds. If that's the case, teams may not want to move up in the second round if doing so means losing picks in rounds 3, 4 or 5.

Those second round trade ups are all for really specific guys falling. They are impossible to judge and definitely not until the end of the draft day Thursday. We'll see who falls.

The Seahawks having two picks directly after may help if the bears are looking to trade back with people thinking the Seahawks will wildcard and take their guy.

I think the move up for QB in this draft will be at the very back of rd 1 with teams making slight trade ups from their high 2 in order to secure the fifth year of control on QB who will need developmental time.

Possibly, though there are at least three teams--Carolina, Seattle, and Pittsburgh--who apparently have significant interest in Malik Willis.

Additionally, some analysts on the NFL Network have said there could be trade ups into the middle of the first round for Pickett and/or Ridder.

I think that's draft smoke. Willis has some skills but he was really inaccurate against lower competition and was worse as a senior than a junior. Very similar college career arch to Love, who slipped into the very end of the first. That's where I think his equalized draft value is.

like Mr. T, I pity the fool who trades up in the first round for Ridder. That guy is a 4th rounder in most draft. I'd put Pickett at third round talent.

Regarding Willis, it seems like the trend is to reach for QBs more than to let them fall. I don't see him lasting to the end of the first.

Wouldn't you be?

He's got a crap roster and barely any decent picks.

The 1st part is a little bit his fault

No, it's really not his fault at all.

Top punters...None ranked higher than the 195th best player. Bears should been able to get one as free agent if they don't use a 6th or 7th round pick.

Matt Araiza
San Diego State

Ryan Stonehouse
Colorado State

Gabe Brkic
Oklahoma

Trenton Gill
NC St.

Jordan Stout

His top two targets, in terms of talent he went after this season (Ogunjobi, Bates) wound up not signing. While he was chasing these players, other targets signed elsewhere, so yeah he owns a bit of this.

Apparently Ogunjobi is working out at Halas Hall. It looks like the Bears are still planning to sign him pending medical clearance.

He let James Daniels walk without a situatable replacement at guard. That is negligence. There were alot of good young guards on the market besides Bates. The shitiness of what Pace left Poles doesn't absolve him from his lackluster offseason either. There is no "rebuilding/taking" in football.

That ended up being a high school who has the same C as the bears insignia.

I still think he ends up a bear as well.

Is that right? I thought it sounded strange that he would be at Halas Hall, but the Twitterverse convinced me otherwise. I guess BRick's assessment of Twitter's nefarious influence is correct! It's good to know I can still count on CFMB for accurate news reporting!

I think he's no worse than equal to Allen Robinson, but I think he wants to give Watson a massage or something. I would be fine with a multi year investment in him.

Your hatred of A-Rob is really skewing your view of other players. A-Rob is a WR1b and Landry is hoping a desperate team takes a chance.

Numbers don't lie. A Rob couldn't get separation or beat good cornerbacks. He was a decent #2 and now he's probably just a #3.

Highly likely that the next Bears WR1 will not be on the roster until after next years draft.

They can either buy one next year, draft one next year, or a guy they lucked upon in the draft this year will have developed to the point you can realistically refer to him as a legitimate NFL WR1.

I don't disagree. At worse, I think Mooney can be a #2.

I think Mooney’s ceiling is a low end #2. If Fields is decent, he’ll likely be starting with 8 or 9 guys not currently on the roster by the time they’re ready to win anything.

Mooney will greatly benefit from working out with Fields the same way A Rob did when it came to working out with (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky. He's going to get a lot of balls thrown his way and have a great statistical season next year. Mooney said one of the issues he had with Fields last year was every pass thrown was a bullet. Supposedly, they've fixed that.

Why trade up for Willis when they could trade for Justin Fields? Have a matched set of 1st round Bears QB picks.

This sounds like an agent working to create a market for his guy.

So he signed his second choice at DT to replace his first choice.

And who is a guard that he targeted other then Bates, who signed somewhere else

Treylon Burks is a guy I’d like to see the Bears take a look at if he gets into the 2nd round

I’m halfway with you on Daniels, but didn’t he get offered a sizable contract where he’s at now? That’s the part I’m not sure about -how much money i’d want to tie up with him.

And as dumb as it is.. I still think letting our perfectly good Punter walk was dumb. He didn’t cost much, it just seems like a really stupid oversight on the part of Poles there. Not to mention, it fixes a problem for a rival in the Packers.

The Bears aren’t competing next year unless Poles has a perfect draft. Allowing an unaccomplished punter to walk won't hurt this team in any way.

I want Pickens if he falls to the Bears.

Do NFL agents do that, I wonder. Call up other teams and test the waters for a trade even tho their guy is under contract. Fields agent should be calling the Steelers, Carolina, Seahawks. Steelers don't have the draft capital to make it worth the Bears trading Fields--unless they do multiple late round 1sts or late 1st and multiple 2nd/3rds. Seattle and Carolina both have top 10 picks this year. Carolina sounds like they wanna move off of 6.

It will be pretty shocking if Poles uses his inaugural draft pick on a seemingly brittle diva like Pickens.

I'd be stunned if Burks is there by the time the Bears select. As for Pickens, I have seen a lot of Mocks with him going to the Packers - which I was on board with until I heard Speigel reading some report out of The Athletic where they asked scouts and GM's who has the biggest bust potential at each position and he was named repeatedly at WR. They all loved his talent but (apparently) he is widely viewed as an uncoachable diva.

Edit: What TM said.

Poles should have his choice of quite a few good WR's at 39. Skyy Moore, Christian Watson, Jalen Tolbert, John Metchie III could all be there.

I'm confident that agents work friendly or naive reporters in an attempt to get their clients drafted higher. I doubt many are calling other teams and telling them to trade for player x.

I would think that Pickens will land with the Chiefs or Packers. I don't see him being available at 39.

The Willis-Steelers thing was due to some long time Steelers writer pimping the idea in some yinzer rag the other day.

I neither know nor care enough to look into it, but it’d be kind of funny if (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky’s career came full circle and he was cucked out of a starting job by some 1st rounder a la him/Glennon.
