Meh.. the logic in that article is flawed. So, if the Bears with the same roster were in position in this draft to get a franchise QB they should pass because their roster sucks?

Almost every team that’s ever drafted a Manning or Luck (you know can’t miss QB types..) has been in that position because.. they suck. And their roster sucks too in most cases.

Fields is young, coming out of just 1 season in the NFL and he’s at least talented. Prime position to be built around. If you ditch the QB now, and build everywhere else and put together a good roster -then the team usually becomes good, and almost always out of position to draft one of those top tier potential franchise changing QB’s.

The smart play is to see what you have in Fields while he’s young and you’ve got him. Build the team around him and see what’s what.

The dumb move would be to trade him, after his 1st year in the league and a rookie season in which he didn’t perform very well and doesn’t have high value anyway for a trade to make sense.

There’s no denying the Bears are in an odd situation, but letting go of the one thing you may actually have that’s really hard to find would be foolish. They should see this thru (with Fields)

while it sucks to give up a player for less than you gave up for them a year after acquiring--Bears gave up a 7th overall and an 11th overall for Fields--if you could get Seattle's 9th overall they have from Denver this year (Seattle traded their own 1st round pick to the Jets) and Seattle's 2023 2nd round pick? Could be another top 40 in 2023, Seattle's 2023 2nd round pick.

Carolina's desperate for a potential franchise QB. Carolina's 6th overall this year and Carolina's 2nd rounder next season also likely to be top 40. Carolina traded their 2nd round pick this year to the Jets.

that seems like about the best you could hope for at this point.

Bears likely to be picking in or near the top 10 in 2023; so you target a QB next draft and that puts an incoming rookie QB in Fall 2023 on the Bears timeline.

Jets and Giants both with 2 top 10 first round picks this year.

Does seem to be a concerted effort by the team to put out stories about Fields struggling, after all one thing we have learned about the "Bears Media/Experts" is that they are dutiful useful idiots for the McKaskey family, after all we got tons of stories about Mitch, "needing to move from 1.0 to the 2.0 level", which we all now know were efforts to cover up Nagy's complete ineptitude as an NFL head coach.

However, if Poles was smart wouldn't he do the exact opposite, pump up Fields to increase his trade value and then hope he finds a Ryan Pace type GM that he can fleece for draft picks?

It does seem a little strange that the team allowed reporters to watch the offense run plays that they had not previously walked through or otherwise prepared to run.

The fluff stories remind me of Urban Meyer when he was at OSU. He had a player that went missing and was eventually found dead IIRC during a one of their BCS runs and every damn day there was a story about him or his wife. Fields definitely has a PR person from OSU working with him. Don't think about the player that OD'd but have a laugh over the Mrs. burning her hair on her birthday cake candles.

Yeah, the sports media, especially the local "beat" people are a rather untrustworthy bunch, kind of a silly enterprise these days because everyone can actually watch almost every game, you see who is failing despite their efforts to spin favorable stories.

Will always remember the dude we met that was a head football coach at a smaller FBS school, he would tell us that the coaches all see the local media as fans that they tell only what they want reported, and since they are fans they will usually squash anything negative or call them before, it's all a means to an end for the athletes and coaches. They know that if anyone looked objectively at what was going on, especially in college where there are dudes at universities that have no business being around other humans, let alone being on a college campus, that they would shut down most football programs immediately.

Yeah in these new plays in a drill that ridiculously favors the offense , it’s much harder for a quarterback whose ostensibly great but everyone around him sucks so he can’t possibly be , to execute hitting open recovers because he’s only been throwing a football for 15 plus years . Very difficult .

Seems we are also seeing the players and agents using the media to force moves from situations they do not like, or more likely, to force a move to a new situation where they will likely get a contract extension with their new team. Smart GM's are able to recognize this and use this to grab huge chunks of draft capital from clueless franchises like the Bears.

So Nagy was just quoted on the Rich Eisen show, "Justin Fields has it. He has everything. He is the real deal. They got the right guy and he will be a star in this league."

Goddamnit. I had thought fields would be a star some day.

Nagy has to be one of the nicest guys with a glass 100 percent full attitude. To go out of your way to say that after Fields pretty much nodded along with his personal qb coach calling him a shit coach with a shit scheme and a shit game plan last year is tremendous.

I think Nagy sincerely believes that.

He just was not the guy to get that out of him.

Also, it's been shown that Nagy is a vindictive phony through his treatment of Mitch and ARob. Additionally, I consider his game plan against Cleveland to be a passive-aggressive attempt to fire back at George after he insisted that Nagy start Fields. Nagy is pretty likely a weaselly scumbag.

He wants to be the guy that was right on (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky, and right on Fields, but didn't get enough time to show it.

Yeah, he essentially gave Fields the McNown treatment in that game. He knew the kid wasn't ready to do what was being asked of him.

 Intentionally sabotaging his chances at remaining at a job that there only 32 of at millions per year by losing on purpose just to show up the guy who writes your checks is an odd flex .

Bernstein and Parkins are starting to doubt Fields.

You may have stumbled upon something, but many of the great partnerships of all time were serendipitous in nature.

The very concept of the Bernstein and Parkins show, two overpowering NFL minds, strike that, two throbbing genius NFL brains sharing NFL acumen would seemingly render any other NFL talk instantly obsolete.

Just think if you have a Dan and Danny, B&P, or Two Dan's Wow, show and the had a segment with the immortal Hub, now that segment would be appointment radio for the entire NFL, coaches like Reid, Tomlin and Belichick would stop what they were doing and hang on every savory nugget of NFL knowledge dropped by the inarguably greatest generators of NFL content in this or any other generation.

Interesting article comparing Bears additions for Fields to other recent 2nd year QBs.

Nah, Nagy is just political when a mic is in front of him. He rarely steps outside of that. I’m sure there’s a possibility if you were to sit down with him his thoughts might be different -but publicly he seems to try to keep that ‘positive’ vibe.

It’s a bit of an act imo
