I do. Noodle-armed Brees and Winston aren't better than whatever Ryan is today. Unless the Colts lose some key guys, I'm willing to wager they'll be a playoff team.

Unless there are still seven playoff spots, I'll make that bet. Ryan has been a bum since he blew the most infamous 25 point lead in history. Which was glorious.

There are. Whiskey and cigar?

I think he’ll be a poor man’s Denver-Manning. They’ll win the South and lose in the divisional.

Did Tennessee leave the division? Or is Henry pre injured?

And Nas I'll take that bet, except for the cigar. I quit smoking even occasionally.

Fair enough.

I think Tennessee just gutted their team, and we both know that the decline of a workhorse running back is usually steep and instant.

True, but Frank Reich lost the respect of his over achieving locker room with forcing Wentz on them last year.

I like Vrabel but I think you can only handle bad QB play and an injured RB for so long.

Colts built through the line and were a QB away from the playoffs. Ryan doesn’t make the mistakes Wentz made. I’d double up on your Nas bet but I don’t want to be presumptuous.

This is an interesting tweet. It averages 18 different draft 'experts' grades.

They have the Bears 29th out of 32 teams.

Yup, saw everything from a B+ to an F, of course nobody knows, but there seem to be thousands of draft experts these days, quite different from back when you had to buy the PFW draft guide, but some of the "experts" are almost laughable. Took in mostly NFL Network for the little bit of live coverage I could watch, ESPN had Mike Greenberg who is an instant PTFB for me, so did not catch any of their live coverage, but the draft grades were bad because they did not reach for offensive players, only time will tell.

I read through one guy who did draft grades and literally every team in the league got A's and B's. If you are going to do grades across the board, someone has to do bad. Not everyone has a good draft.

Armed with two second round picks and glaring needs at Wide Receiver and Right Guard, Ryan Poles managed to walk out of draft weekend with glaring needs at Wide Receiver and Right Guard.

The draft grades for these individual outlets are based on the individual outlet's opinion of each player. These are the same expert opinions who had Nakobe Dean as a top 20 player, despite the professional market saying otherwise. He is hardly the only example of a guy these outlets overrated compared to the professionals. So when a team finally picks Dean they get an A+ because he "fell" far below their expectations. The more accurate interpretation is that the outlet should get an "F" for their poor evaluation rather than the team getting an "A" for its astute pick. However, that would be an admission that these outsiders just aren't that good at what they do.

They are fun but worthless.

I think the Bear choices on the line were particular to the type of blocking they wish to employ. There might have been better players for more generalized schemes who would not have fit into what the Bears want to do. I think Kramer, in particular was this type of player.

Anyway, when I look at grades, I feel pretty confident the average on line evaluator didn't spend much time at Southern Utah or Southern U, so their evaluations might be limited.

My overall evalation: I think this draft was about as good as could be expected. They took players who both fit their systems and who were talented. I think it was a bpa draft, but you could argue that needs at CB and S were as glaring as any on the team. Going into the draft, your choices for a starting CB were Graham, who showed some promise at the end of the year but is a 6th rounder from a year ago and Vildor, who simply can't play on the outside.

The very big issue though is that your need overarching every move on this team is to make Fields a starting QB to whom you want to give a second contract. I don't see how we helped him for next year, even if Velus is better than many thought he would be.

In a normal draft, we'd be pretty happy with that Braxton Miller pick as he has starting LT traits that may emerge in a year. Robinson looks like a guy who can rush the passer but needs development time. The punter even looks like a really good substitution for O'Donnell.

but Fields needed help today, not tomorrow. Hopefully, Poles is good to his word on this next wave of free agency and we get immediate help on the line and maybe even TE.

The CB and S better be really good starting DBs for a while for this to be a good draft. I still do not see how you can justify going DB with both of the first 2 picks with such glaring needs at OL and WR.

Not sure how it will work out, but I'm impressed by the level of discipline that Poles is showing. I hope there is some flexibility in his approach. There isn't anything that leads me to believe there isn't any yet.

Time will tell if it's a bad draft, but as someone stated already...Fields need line help immediately. They didn't get it.
All things are pointing towards a tank year....Detroit will likely even be better than the Bears.

Does Fields need line help? Mustipher appeared to be the weakest link last season, and outside of a shitty gameplan against Cleveland, I didn't think the line was terrible last year. We've added a fullback and coaches who couldn't possibly be worse than Nagy.

The offense will be completely different, outside zone run scheme which requires mobile lineman, backs that read and cut back as run lanes open up, and use of misdirection to open up quick passing lanes. The fact they picked guys with return skills makes you think they are looking for one cut type backs and WR that can read the blocks and cut inside, or have the speed to hit the edge. They are counting on the fact that the new OC bringing in an offense more suited to running the ball will help to mitigate shortcomings, but there were very few linemen capable of running this type of scheme on the team when Poles took over, so they will have to depend on finding guys later in the draft that were passed over by other teams, but possess the necessary skills required to run the offense.

This seems like an offense that is tailor-made for Herbert. He has excellent vision and is a very patient runner.

Almost put that in my post, Montgomery is more of a run to contact type guy, whereas Herbert and the Ebner kid they drafted who played in a zone scheme at Baylor, and they see the 3rd rounder Velus Jones as a Deebo Samuel type that fits outside zone as well, reading they supposedly have all kinds of plays for him already?

Time will tell, but certainly seems like they picked guys with traits they felt fit the offense, of course it could all fail spectacularly like it did under Nagy, and it will take them time to get top end guys that fit what they want to do, but will be a completely different offensive philosophy this year.

If Getsy brings the offense of a competent level and he is able to develop Fields into a franchise QB, he's likely a HC somewhere very soon, in many ways he is way more important to the long term success of the franchise then Eberflus.

However, there does seem to be at least a plan and the goal to develop an identity on offense, which is something that never happened under Nagy.

Ravens nailed the 25th pick. Ravens had multiple 1st round and 4 fourth round picks. How'd they get so many picks. Jets and Giants cleaned up in the draft. Won't matter, Jets will still suck and Giants have Daniel Jones at QB.

The Cowboys had Gordon ranked above McDuffie?

They obviously played on the same team, and McDuffie was the #1 corner.

Interesting stuff.

Odd conversation between Leery & Joe O earlier defending the Bears’ draft and mocking people who criticized the picks.

That then led to Joe O commenting on NFL futures, where he noted that the Bears odds are somehow getting worse. Apparently he’s unaware those two things may be connected.

Our best player on the line last year, Peters, won't be on the team this year. The guy taking his place, Borom, was inconsistent last year and finished the season poorly. We don't appear to have identified a starting right guard, so it could be that Mustipher will start at center until Kramer is ready and Patrick will shift over. And our right tackle, Jenkins, has been singled out by Thayer for having a shitty work ethic and being soft. So, yeah, sounds promising.
