We could fit the entire population of the planet comfortably in a geographic area the size of Texas (in terms of basic survival, I agree we would not want to live that close to many of the world's populations, see: Ohio and Florida people). We are a long way from overpopulated, no matter what bloodthirsty, batshit insane people like Bill Gates say.

It's not the people; it's the resources to feed them. No one has developed the magic pill to feed and hydrate us all. Until then, there is a ceiling on our growth before spoiled Americans burn everything down.

The United States pay farmers not to farm 25 million acres. Who knows how many million more acres lie fallow outside the programs. Worldwide there's probably as much or more arable land not in production as in production, especially in central and eastern Europe and Russia.

You need fresh water that the world doesn't currently have enough of.

That sounds like something maybe the rest of the world should have thought of before deciding to live in arid regions. Plenty of fresh water where I'm at. Image

Nas, I don't know if you are making this argument but it would be an interesting one: the increase in those excluding themselves from the non breeding pool is an evolutionary trait or sociological
occurrence whose catalyst is subliminally perceived or actual overpopulation.

The pleasure inherent in sexual congress is designed to propagate and perpetuate the species. The fact that so many fewer people are actually engaging in such congress is likely due to the replacement of beef by soy.

Bill Maher is here to say that the Democrats are out of control and crazy, but you absolutely must vote for them. That's because Republicans don't believe in Democracy. Now let's discuss the Supreme Court draft leak.

It's funny that traditional Democrats acknowledge that the Democratic Party does not reflect their values but reflexively vote for them anyway while traditional Republicans acknowledge that the modern Democratic Party now accurately reflects their most cherished values and insist that "reasonable" Americans must vote for whatever demented and/or braindead candidate the Democrats select. THAT'S THE POWER OF DRUMPF!

I don't think dementia patients govern. But you knew he was demented before you voted. Or at least you should have.

There really needs to be a better explanation from the medical community on why people should have unnecessary surgeries and be dependent on medical care for the rest of their lives instead of learning to live with their bodies and being as healthy as possible. If self-mutilation is the answer, the problem has been misdiagnosed.

For the overwhelming majority of the industrialized world, I don't think it has anything to do with overpopulation. In industrialized nations, the more "sophisticated" society doesn't breed a lot. Others are shamed for breeding a lot because they are seen as a potential drain on society. That leads to more abortions and other measures that prevent pregnancies/live births.

Our community is no different from the rest of the country/industrialized world. Seacrest and I have been a board "joke" for almost 20 years because the number of kids we have is more than 2. Others in our community have chosen to skip the breeding process for various reasons. We don't mock or question them. We consider their lack of breeding to be more manly. Just like our country does.

Blame the government over the past 40 years for the shift. We will need the "undesirable" immigrants to sustain us for the next century or so now.

Back to the original topic: I find it ironic that a kidless and presumed heterosexual man like Bill Maher is attacking trans people because they're not doing what they were designed to do. I'm confident there are far more heterosexual people sitting out of the breeding process than there are actual transsexual, gay, or lesbian people in our country. We as a society are not beating them up. Also, there are very few gold star lesbians. MANY have kids already.

That's wrong though. You and Seacrest have fulfilled your duty to humanity. I have not. That certainly isn't "manly." It's actually childish and extremely selfish. Sadly, there are MANY like me. I freely admit my selfishness. My lack of reproduction is not soy-related.

I don't think he is "attacking" trans people. One problem with our discourse is the usage of words like "attack" in such contexts.

In the vast majority of cases "trans" is nothing but fashion rather than any type of inherent condition.

And whatever. You're thirty years old and you want to dress like a broad and call yourself Sally, knock yourself out. But cutting the tits off twelve year old girls and chemically castrating boys is pure evil.

I covered you though.

Grandkids are growing as well.

Our grand daughter took her first ride on a CTA bus yesterday and lived to talk about it later.

But it MUST be thought of that way. Think of the alternative. If everyone were like me, this would be the final generation.

I think the bigger concern is why young people aren't having sex. I'm being glib about soy, but there may actually be some physical issue with these younger generations and it only seems logical that something they are putting in their bodies is the culprit.

I'm probably as old as a person can be who had a diet during my formative years that didn't consist of 100% "real" food. It was somewhat worse for a typical American of your age. Today's kids are being loaded with God knows what kind of chemicals.

I don't think that is entirely true. I believe that it's just not the folks that our society would prefer. I think most of that comes from the pressure parents and society puts on them to do well and not procreate at a young age. The intimacy still exists.

Maybe I'm too optimistic of a person, but I think humanity will be fine when it comes to baby making.

20 percent of the population saying they are gay is a sign of confusion at the least.

20% is not some and yes, it will if 20% is not breeding. You need 2.1 fertility rate to sustain a population. Most of the western world is having a difficult time keeping up right now.

and no, the world is not overpopulated

demographers already expect that humans will hit a peak population this century and a slide down will begin

Breakthroughs in technology are how we got to this record level population, and I'm confident new technological breakthroughs will double or even triple the amount of people we have now. This whole idea that population will decline is absurd to me.

I don't really think they are claiming to be gay. They are claiming to be "fluid" or "non-binary" which really just means they don't want to be categorized. There is plenty of scientific evidence to suggest that there is no such thing as a "bisexual." People can have sex with whoever or whatever they want, but they will always have a preference.

Ironically, the trans movement is undermining or perhaps even destroying a foundational belief of "Gay Pride", i.e. that one is "born that way." If a person is "fluid" or "non-binary" how could they have been "born that way?" Are we saying that they were born "fluid?" Or are they making a choice about which sex they are attracted to on a given day or at a given moment?

I have noticed that. Everyone I grew up with couldn't wait to get that license the day they were eligible. These kids don't seem to really care.

I am using gay as a catchall as Maher did in the segment. I don't know what non-binary means other than you get attention for being in the LGBTQ+ community. I don't think that non-binary people know what it means either other than they are special.

We are teaching people to be self-indulgent, self-absorbed drama-queens. It's more important to be affirmed for your identity than to accomplish things. We will be debating pronouns when the Chinese come for us.
