Just pointing out the mental gymnastics required to not admit that there was a racial component to this. It's not Donaldson mocking bat flipping through the guy who integrated baseball because of one comment in 2019.

The racial component to this was first provided by Anderson himself however. He compared himself to a person considered by many to be a Civil Rights Icon. That made him fair game.

Not every racial component is off limits. Tim Anderson isn't, and shouldn't be, a velvet pillow. Again, it's one thing off the field to talk shit for years on end(because the derider is a box of rocks and has nothing else), but things change on the field of battle. And "enough was enough", said Tim and also his teammate.

If history can only be viewed through a racial lens and the US is an inherently racist country than it could be argued that that a white player expressing anything racist is simply him expressing his culture and the young baseball fans have taught us that we shouldn't infringe on such a joyous expression with our unwritten rules.

Maybe. Locker rooms are fraternities. Guys who commit actual crimes have teammates and coaches say nice things about them. This is a nothing story, and Josh Donaldson can't find a towel boy/girl to say anything nice about him. "I know Josh; he was just joking around or trying to gain an edge. He doesn't have a racist bone in his body." Anything close to that is what any player would generally get from their brothers. Especially considering what was said.

Edit: That player from the Eagles used an actual slur on camera and his entire team immediately came to his defense. Everyone apparently hates Josh Donaldson.
