For those of you unfamiliar with the remarkable 80s movie Something Wild, I suggest renting it. An early Jonathan Demme film, it is a minor masterpiece that serves as a critique of the false nostalgia characteristic of Reaganism and the 80s zeitgeist more broadly (as exemplified by another film that Liotta acted in, Field of Dreams). Liotta gives a remarkable performance as a menacing, unpredictable psychopath, and Jeff Daniels and Melanie Griffith are quite good in it as well. Highly recommended.

RIP to Ray Liotta. He was a hell of an actor.

Checked this one out on your recommendation the other night. It comes on like Desperately Seeking Susan and finishes like Cape Fear. A "minor masterpiece" might be overstating it, but it was a solid movie, and Liotta was great in it. I also dug the Buzz Kilman cameo.

Thank God I'm not an actor.

Nearly a year after his death, more is coming to light about Ray Liotta's death. The "Goodfellas" star died from respiratory insufficiency, pulmonary edema and acute heart failure, according to documents obtained by TMZ. In other words, Ray had heart and respiratory system issues, including fluid in his lungs. The 67-year-old died in May 2022 in his hotel room in the Dominican Republic, where he was filming the upcoming thriller "Dangerous Waters." Documents noted that the death was natural and nonviolent. TMZ reported that Ray also suffered from atherosclerosis -- a thickening of the arteries caused by a buildup of plaque in the inner lining -- something that often leads to diabetes and other health issues.

sounds like a culmination of the effects from a lifetime of smoking. 67 was too young, but "documents noted that the death was natural and nonviolent". natural in the sense that nobody killed him, or it wasnt suicide, but it seems obvious he smoked way too much. he looked like shit for years before his death.
