That was one of the areas that I gave him a pass on. The game is too fast for most rookies. There were a few moments when the game slowed down for him. He felt the rush and made elite plays. The run against the 49ers and the 4th quarter against the Steelers stand out to me.

I kinda expect my first round franchise quarterback to make elite plays .

Sure, but I'm not just talking about the game moving too fast for him. There were a bunch of times last season where he seemed to show that he just doesn't feel the rush the same way a lot of other QBs do.

Fields was sacked 56 times in his college career while attempting 618 passes — or once every 11.0 pass plays.

36 sacks in 270 pass attempts first season with the Bears, once every 7.5 pass plays.

Trey Lance sacked once every 22.2 pass plays during his college career.

Trey Lance once every 18 pass plays in his limited NFL action

Mac Jones was sacked once every 37.8 pass plays in college.

Mac Jones once every 19 plays in NFL

So the NFL game was slower for Fields than it was for Mac Jones or Fields' instincts have always sucked and it is unlikely they will improve much.

isn't it sports motivation 101 that you talk people up by telling them they're better than they currently are in the hopes they'll eventually become that better version of themselves. He's not even doing the 180 and trying to motivate them by saying they suck and will never amount to a hill of beans as receivers. He's just tempered expectations to the point that he's not motivating them to do anything more than replacement level wide receiving.

Mooney after making 3 catches in a row drops an easy pass.

"How could you drop that pass?"

Mooney: "Hey man, back off, I'm trying to be just good enough not great"

Probably the delta between the talent of Alabama's 2020 offensive line and the rest of college football > the advantage any NFL line might have over their competition.

2 1st rounders and 2 second rounders came out of that line, iirc.

Mac Jones was playing against college competition behind a line that could've and would be starting in the NFL in a year or two

He believes that he's entitled to be a leader, though.

He's had handlers for a decade, and this is the end result? They all should be fired, and the Bears should give him a PR guy to work with.

Impressive practices against this dubious Bears defense should be taken with a grain of salt.

The lead-in about how they don’t have guys like Odell or Kupp was my favorite part.

Here's what I got when I ran it...
"Dare I say that Mr. Arkush has prematurely praised the offensive potential of Justin Fields? It appears that he has physical tools, to be sure, but I cannot imagine that he's nearly as ready to put it all together as neatly as Mr. Arkush would seem to suggest. I have a small winkie."

Hub has been known to make voting decisions early and regardless of on field play. Fields' has evolved from bad rookie to iconic leader and mvp favorite this offseason according to the local coverage.

What's your projection for Sammy Watkins now that he'll "get to see the ball more" after the Packers let dead weight Adams go.
