what's comforting is that cubs fans now get a glimpse into life being a saints fan.

it's not funny, it's not fun.

I don't believe in curses, but when you watch the Cubs you sometimes wonder.

-The ball going thru Durham's legs in 84, who if I remember was a pretty good defensive first baseman.
-Greg Maddux, maybe the best pitcher in this generation, getting lit up in the 89 playoffs
-Alex Gonzalez, a normally sure handed shortstop, muffing the potential DP ball in game 6.
-Then yesterday, two normally surehanded fielders, DeRosa and Lee, muffing consecutive ground balls.

You would have to be a saint in order to pull for the Cubs any longer!

Yeah, what I said.

Further evidence that these teams, current and past, can't handle the pressure is that since the 1984 playoff choke, the Cubs home playoff record is 3-9. I'd like to know any team with more than 4 home playoff games with a worse home playoff record than that in the past 25 years.

The only playoff series they have won in the past 100 years started with a split on the road. Getting out of town is the best thing that can happen to this team.

After '03, '04, '07, '08, I think we can safetly say that the current Cub players cannot handle the pressure. That means we need to find some players that do not wilt under pressure, since it's obvious that the Cubs face more pressure than any other team in baseball.

Off the top of my head, Oakland. They blew 2-0 ALDS series leads something like 2 out of 4 years (like '01 and '03 or thereabouts), and then lost a game or 2 at home against the Tigers in the '06 ALCS. Not sure if its quite as bad as 3-9, but obviously thier recent playoff record at McAfee is not good.

I mean they are cursed by the fact that no group of half-ass, late-night partying, over-the-hill drunken dumbasses have even lucked their way into a championship in 100 years. I mean every other stinking franchise in America and one in Canada at least got lucky one year and stumbled into something.

So, that leaves this franchise, paralyzed by a set of circumstances that no player's psyche seems capable of handling. There is no other explanation for continual failure to show up in the playoffs by different sets of guys in different years against substandard competition. Grace is about the only player who ever has shown up in the playoffs. Everybody else sucks. Last night's game was an embarrassment and that dumbass on the M&H show blaming Cubs fans can blow me. That game sucked. They've won one freakin' series in 100 years. They have a right to sit on their hands until those sleepwalkers give them a reason to slap those hands together. I didn't see it last night.

If they don't win the World Series this year, I might be done with this franchise. I'm not even sure winning a World Series is worth this at this point. Watching 35 years of mind-numbing games like last night, year after year playing playoff games with your eyes staring directly into the headlights and having to watch the whole funeral play out is getting to be a bit much.

It's like the MLB version of Fear Factor. Sure, those dim bulbs won $50,000. But they had to eat a cow uterus. Was the $50k really worth vomiting up a cow uterus?

That may be one of the most insightful and to the point comments ever left in this forum, sir.

I'm done until they win a pennant. I'm over, I'm out, I'm done. Until they win the NL flag, they are the Houston Oilers of major league baseball.

I'll say one positive thing to try to counter all the negative about the Cubs that I've been preaching since I joined in June...things always could be worse. We could be White Sox fans. That is all.

The Saints have never even been to the Superbowl. The Cubs *have* won league championships and been in and won the World Series. Apples and oranges, my friend.

Yeah, I mean who wouldn't want to end thier streak of no WS titles, and then win a play-in game at home to get back into the playoffs a few years later

I didn't say I would mind the level of success the Sox have had. What I said was "things could be worse...we could be White Sox fans." For a Cubs fan, that is all that needs be said. I'm sure you wouldn't understand. No matter how bad things get, we take confidence that we will never sink low enough to be a fan of the White Sox instead of the Cubs.

The Cubs are the Yankees, and the Sox are the Mets in Chicago. No amount time, money, or world series wins will ever change that. The Sox are irrelevant. They won, and no one outside of the projects cared. They may win again (though I doubt it) and no one outside of the projects will care.

The Cubs have eternal bragging rights because they may be the loveable pathetic losers, but they are the Yankees of loveable, pathetic losers. Hard to deal with if you're a Sox fan, but it's reality.

Hate to say it, but I was thinking the same when I read COF's post. Not that I will ever stop supporting the Cub's first and foremost. But how can anyone think that the fortunes of the White Sox fans have been bad of late?

But... doesn't being angry at the Cubs make us de facto White Sox fans?

No, but it does make you a shitty Cubs fan according to Darkside.

So much for keeping the McCoys and Hatfields apart until after the playoffs.

While it was an anti Sox shot that started the latest chapter in the most infantile pissing contest of all time, for fucking once, take the high road and ignore it Sox fans. You have the ultimate trump card and refuse to live up to it.

You've won.

Every time you shoot back, you diminish that accomplishment and lower yourself to the playing field Cubs meatheads are forced to play upon. So take the high road and until the tight collared idiots finish fucking up the best set up in my lifetime, just stay quiet. When the Sox complete the humiliation trifecta and win the WS this year, you can really have a party.
For the next couple of days however, just be quiet. That would be the smart thing to do.

Which is why I said a "glimpse". Do you know of any Cubs fans that remember those championships by the way? Or were alive? While it is a part of the history, it's LONG history...and I'm gauging fandom, not necessarily the history of the clubs; obviously I couldn't do that since the Saints are an expansion franchise. As far as knowing suffering, Cubs and Saints fans have something in common.

Nothing more needs to be posted about this gutless, heartless, ball-less team.

They can go on their multimillion dollar vacations now, and act like this was a great year for them; more money in their pockets so they can raise their asshole children on yachts and empty adventures in the south seas.

It's only us that have to deal with the suffering.

Mark DeRosa--add this to your fuckin' resume, after the 3-1 double play last year...dipshit.

You know I never miss an opportunity to take a shot at New Jersey--and DeRosa, you just make it a whole lot easier.

The Dumptruck of the fuckin' east.
