hope someone crosschecks kassian straight to the ambulance. what a dirty player. gets rewarded with the gtg. a bad history that perfectly colors his career.

mike smith at age 40...he must remember being better than crawford in g vs. g playoff match-ups, because he did a corey at 4-2. his puck-handling ended up in the back of his net. the oilers balloon popped and they needed to come back from being down a goal to force overtime. a desperate keith needing every stick-trick he's learned over 15 years to defend. keith also got away with a 2 hand whack across the back of rantanen's legs.

i don't mind another 42 mins of hockey tonight and a game 5 in denver.

The sheer skill to knock that out of the air on goal and put the rebound away……so much talent.

i thought he took it down with the stick over the shoulder level, but, that's a regular speed. i looked towards koharski for guidance and he's "oh gee, holy shit, hockey play". haha.

when i first got into hockey, denis morel was the referee everyone ridiculed. the road team would get called for 7 penalties, to the home team's 1 in the montreal forum and quebec colisee. after morel, koharski of the late 80s and early 90's - held in disdain, "have another donut, koharski". now, he's the rules expert.

that's like angel hernandez as the rules expert for fox sports 2031 world series.

Had to pop in and name Bruce Hood as the ref in Montreal who would call the penalties 7-1 against the road teams. :D
Cherry on top of 2010 game 6 was that Bill McCreary was the ref and he couldn't do a damn thing to prevent a Chicago victory. His anti-Hawk bias was legendary!!!

rosey cheeks hood. his face was as red as a tomato.

i want to say that mccreary gave the blues 6 or 7 consecutive PPs in a home playoff game against keenan and rookie roenick. the game where roenick had to show mccreary his teeth in his palm after glen featherstone did some dental work with his stick. after lysiak, we were in the doghouse for awhile. i want to say that keenan sold kerry fraser his house and the hawks were back in good graces with the referees.

One of those strange interesting tidbits:

Quote:
Jaromir Jagr had a long and storied NHL career, so it's obvious that he had a ton of teammates over the years. What's impressive is how successful so many of Jagr's teammates were.

In fact, one of Jagr's teammates had appeared in every edition of the Stanley Cup Final dating back to New York Islanders legend Bryan Trottier in 1980 all the way up to Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Jon Merrill in 2021. But now, for the first time in 40 seasons, there won't be a player that has played with Jagr that will suit up for the Stanley Cup Final.

No Jagr teammates are on the Lightning or Avalanche, who will meet on Wednesday in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final

Jomboy informed us all that Lightning vs Avalanche is the first Stanley Cup Final in NHL history to feature two teams that don’t end in the letter ‘S’

It also is only the second time in the history of the 4 major US sports that this has been the case

Game 2 tonight. Game 1 was fantastic and this has the looks of an epic series. It's going to be fascinating to see the tactics between Cooper and Bednar. Much like the Hawks back in the day, the Lightning get better as the series go on. Granted, they have not faced an opponent this strong in a Finals since the 2015 Hawks and we know how that went. And as much of a turd that Kucherov is, his play against Makar and Toews setting up Palat for the tip-in goal on Wednesday was brilliant. And the game-winner in OT was a precise, elite-level play. Great stuff overall. I will be glued to the TV for every game and if you are looking for something to watch, I highly recommend it.

The Avs are so fun to watch. Their offense is ridiculous.

That was an absolute ass whipping. I don't think I have ever seen Tampa hit the panic button like that and try to start a bunch of shit with the other team before...especially Stamkos who was leading the way.

Exactly. Not surprisingly, the Lightning looked frustrated and rattled. I'd love to see them get swept.

Edit- why can't I make a post without forgetting a word, misspelling a word, or mixing up teams? Dementia?

gritty win for tampa in an elimination game - they have looked second best for most of the series. some dodgy goaltending the whole series, reminds me of 2010.

Goals 1 and 3 given up by Kuemper were ones that needed to be stopped.

agreed. very strong club, gk is their weak link. on the other hand, vasilevskiy has been giving up juicy rebounds all series. i just remember 2010 and philly - leighton and boucher...jeez. vasilevskiy is much better than those 2 and has 2 cups, but he's been sub-par this series. if tampa was up 3-2 and let's say they win the cup a 3rd straight time, colorado would move heaven and earth for a quality gk this off-season. even if colorado wins the cup, maybe sakic is still looking to get a better gk and put a stranglehold on the western conference the next 2-3 years. we know chicago won't threaten them.

Congrats to the Colorado Avalanche. Real fun, closely played game.
