Wasn’t Soup a do-nothing bagman whose only skill was being a good hang?

Six months ago it was a joke he was part of the committee. People will speculate on the reason but the decision seems sound.

Poles is turning the entire organization over. By the end of year 1, Bill Pollian will be banned from Halas Hall. Eberflus will make it to the end of year 2 and then get canned. By the season opener of year 3, not a single Ryan Pace player/employee will remain with the Bears.

I don't agree with this at all. The only way Poles reacts like this is if he feels threatened by Campbell. Poles will get to hire and fire at least one more coach as GM....he has at LEAST 8 years to go in this job. If Campbell was anywhere near ready for a GM job...he'll go get one outside of the Bears organization.

This is a load of Bullshit. Something else happened here.

Either ownership asked Poles to fire him, or he was meddling, and Poles asked permission to whack him.

See this a dismantling of what guys like Bernstein, Hub, and Parkins were constantly referring to as, "the best culture in the league", which we now know was complete idiocy.

Think about it, you had, and I know some of you love it when I use this term, a grab ass culture under Nagy. Guys enjoying easy practices, if you didn't know the play or where to line up..well that was OK 'cause we're gonna party at Club Dub like we had just won the Super Bowl after any win and even the highest paid superstar players could hide in after losses, guys running to "Soupy's" office for pizza to complain about things was apparently part of the half assed approach under Nagy.

When a new boss comes onboard, they have to tear down the previous regimes failed organizational structure and culture in order to build what they think will be a more successful structure, Poles undoubtedly came in and saw flaws all throughout the organization which needed to be fixed, he is slowly doing that right now, it may or may not be successful, but certainly quite a fall from grace for Soupy.

Ok. I get that maybe the locker room culture was a bit fruity. Maybe it needed to change and maybe Soup needed to be let go to do so. Canned soup one might say.

Did they really have to call him on vacation with his family? This couldn't wait until he got back in his office? Hey soup, how was vacation? Boss wants to see ya. Nah he didn't say.

Firing a guy on vacation is cold. gazpacho cold.

Perhaps, but both arrests involved players freshly inked by....Poles.

Maybe Poles should prioritize signing guys less likely to have encounters with law enforcement?

Completely agree.

The guy very well may have needed to be fired. But the way they did it is stupid. And as TM pointed out the signings were on Poles.

This doesn’t bode well . Canning your VP of player interaction is just torpedoing your season. How will they get along without him ?

Maybe Soup was the one who leaked the "tough" practices to the union, which resulted in the penalty.

Regardless, it was a low-class move to do it over the phone when the guy was on vacation.

Soup got canned while on vacation. He had a job that no one truly understood or knew if he was doing it well.

I like Poles taking control of the organization. If you're going to get fired in 4 years, you may as well do things your way. The leaks should be interesting.

Poles enjoys canned soup after Pringle does donuts.

I think the lack of signing anyone who gives them a chance to be competitive is a bigger issue.

Sounds more plausible then blaming him for two guys Poles just signed getting arrested.

I don't get the reflexive impulse to defend/validate Poles here. He pissed away 4M by not understanding how to dump Foles strategically and then fucked up one other signing. Then he's proceeded to stock the Bears with average to below average players in free agency. We have the worst roster in the league led by a QB whose got no weapons to throw to. And now in what potentially suggests some major insecurities he fires someone who allegedly wasn't on board with his hire. Sounds like the makings of a great GM.

I like the strategy of getting a bunch of convicts. It worked for the U back in the day.

Another reason why we need decriminalization of drugs nationwide and constitutional carry.
