Had to just remind my son (edit) about what his otherwise delicious dish was missing. Did the same thing about French onion soup two years ago.

Definitely. I've got to be quick to get back to New Orleans for those, grilled oysters from Dragos and a Debris sandwich

The only other place I'm really interested in is Doe's Eat Place.

Go figure

That's damned delicious as well. But then again any oysters work for me.

Oddly enough that was a Houston thing for me.

Dragos oysters could quite possibly be the single best regional food Ive had the pleasure of enjoying over the years. I took my wife there on a trip down south during Covid and now she feels the same. Fantastic!

I've had oysters once and got sick as hell. Worst night of my life and I will spare the details. I'm sure I just had a bad oyster, but I've been hesitant to try them again. Anthony Bourdain said only eat oysters if you can smell the ocean. That's probably good advice.

You’d have to be nuts to miss a testicle festival. I can’t bring myself to eat those or lamb fries. Just… no.

Antoine's claims to have invented Oysters Rockefeller and they will proudly tell you the recipe does NOT contain spinach. I'm not sure what they use but if I had to guess I would say one of the ingredients is chervil.

Just eat them from the shell. Unless they’re gulf oysters then do whatever you want to them.

my kids would have never tried oysters but I forced them to try the grilled oysters in NO and they loved them

Delisi's is my favorite po boy shop in the city. It's a little off the beaten path and nothing to look at but its really great.

I could do a food and drink vacation to new orelans every year. Some guys in the neighborhood do but they are choads who I'd never drink with here, so I'm spending money to go hang with them.

My dad brought some home when I was a kid. Something about his face and tone told me not to try them. A few minutes later my mom told me what they were and I was repulsed.

So no.

I always thought Salernos had pretty good baked clams. I can't do raw oysters.

Dolphin is a connoisseur of bull testicles.

Why is this not surprising?

Have you been there since they moved to Homewood? I was a big fan when they were in Chicago and then later in Blue Island (RIP Charlie and the Lions Head Ale House) but I haven’t checked it out since the fire.

When they were on 107th we'd eat with the owner. My wife couldn't believe that I'd help him name or tinker with the dishes.

God I loved that place.

Ironic that you would mention this. Was just there and it was the first stop my peeps made once we got off the plane. They made a big deal about those damn Oysters from that place too.

That owner would likely have been Charlie (he also owned the Lions Head Ale House). Your helping with the dishes was probably appreciated as he was a self-taught Cajun cook. We met “The Walrus” at the Ale House back when it was hard to find a wide selection of imported beer (beyond Becks and Heineken) in the Chicago area. He was a good guy who enjoyed hanging out with his customers.

I used to love their turtle soup at The Taste of Chicago, back when that was relevant. It was already out of the city by the time I was going to restaurants as an adult

I'm against it.
