Two shows now come to mind that have done it right in re-booting themselves: "Cobra Kai" obviously.

Now, "Kids in the Hall".

This 8-episode "series" is a total return to form. the only thing they added to their quirky repertoire is their own...frontal nudity. which is a bit shocking...but also, a bit funny. not the best thing to lean on, which they don't...but they also don't lean on the past, just mailing in a cash grab to trend on social media.

With the audacious material, they do their due diligence of "diversity" to pay the lip service, and pave the way for the typical offbeat humor they mastered in the late-80's-to-mid-90's.

they do bring back some classic characters. i would've loved to see more gordon and gavin, and i hope cabbage head is in the cards if this is renewed.

but it's their commitment to the craft of their weird sketch approach that keeps it entertaining throughout.

some of it doesn't work, some of it barely works...but when it hits, it hits perfectly.

i wouldn't necessarily recommend it to people who are unfamiliar with them. if you are, then try to find the original series. or watch "Brain Candy" (which they also successfully reference).

It's refreshing to see stuff like this during Cancel Culture. And I guess it didn't make enough of a blip to the Twitter Mob to attack it. But it does have some really wild shit going on.

:D :D :D out of :D :D :D :D

Big fan of the original series, was excited to watch this, 3 or 4 episodes in I finally gave up. I appreciated the effort, I just didn’t find it very funny.

I used to love this show. Simon and Hecubus was on of my favorites.
I wasn't able to bring myself to watch this because of my fond memories.

This was always the case. I need to dig in this weekend now that I've caught back up on the original. I know it'll be better than the Mr. Show return that I'd successfully erased from my brain.

The original Kids was sooooo hit or miss. I actually thought this was a much higher percentage of hit than the original was. Mind you I never minded the KITH misses mostly because it felt original and fresh. This reboot felt damn perfect. Kids also were more vulgar to start with and then got a wider audience when it wasn’t as acceptable and softened. Does anyone remember the hitler fucking a cow? The Buddy Holly episode always a if mine. So sent these old men show their cock remind me of the early Kids first season. Stupid and sophomoric sure. Still felt true to form though.

What an awful waiter.
What an awful actor. I mean, he really padded his part. In rehearsal, he had two lines!
He was just supposed to recommend the duck.
And why's he playing it so gay?

i did want to say, now that i think about it, the only misses that weren't cute were the "friends of kids in the hall" bits. some of the guests were eye-roll inducing.

now back to "brand new key"!
