What's your projection for Sammy Watkins now that he'll "get to see the ball more" after the Packers let dead weight Adams go.

remember that shitty windup that started from about the waist last year and elongated the time it took to release? That's gone. Hand up and throwing it from the ear, like a dart

Seems from what is trickling out from the vaunted "Bears Media", that the offense will feature more quick passes to backs and receivers out of the backfield, more QB friendly, but relies on quick recognition of the mismatch and a quick/accurate throw to give the guy a chance to make the catch and maybe break a tackle. Fields often passed up the short easy throws last year while always looking for downfield routes to open, this caused quite a few sacks because he still thought he was facing Big Ten DE's who he could easily outrun and gain the outside edge, but he quickly found out that NFL DE's are more than fast enough to run him down.

One of the early tells will be to see if Fields has progressed enough to recognize and take advantage what the defense is giving him and take the easy 5-10 yard completions that allow you to move the chains while patiently waiting for the safety or CB to start shading to a side or start creeping up and then take your downfield shot.

Everyone's mechanics look good until a very angry 300 pound dude that just tossed another 300 pound dude out of the way comes running at you wanting to take your head off.

Sounds familiar...

Quote:
Mitchell (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky smiled a lot during his media session following Wednesday's OTA practice at Halas Hall, and who could blame him?

The Bears quarterback is thrilled with the strides that he and his offensive teammates are making in their second year together in the system.

"I think 'smooth' is really a good word to describe how things are going," (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky said. "Everyone's on the same page. Everyone knows what they're doing in Year 2 in this offense, so it's a lot of fun just getting out there and going through it and just being even more detailed than we were last year within each play."

Coach Matt Nagy has been impressed with the deeper understanding of the offense that (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky has gained since first being introduced to the system a little over a year ago. It's enabling the Bears quarterback to make changes before the ball is snapped based on what he sees from the defense—something that (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky wasn't always able to do last season when he was still digesting the playbook.

"Last year he learned it; this year he's really trying to master it," Nagy said. "He's done a wonderful job right now at trying to get to some of the adjustments we have within the plays and the concepts and the schemes. Hopefully within a few months from now when we get to training camp and preseason you all see that in game situations."

(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky excelled in game situations last year. The second pick in the 2017 draft was voted to his first Pro Bowl after passing for 3,223 yards with 24 touchdowns and a 95.4 passer rating while helping lead the Bears to a 12-4 record and the NFC North title.

(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky, however, is already showing signs in OTAs that this season could be even more special.

"There are adjustments that he makes that we don't have to tell him, 'Hey, do this.' He just does it naturally," Nagy said. "That's what you're looking for."

(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky has enthusiastically accepted his coach's challenge to master the offense. To the quarterback, that means understanding the system well enough to teach it to his teammates.

"It's basically trying to know the offense as well as coach Nagy does," (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky said.

Offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich has been just as impressed as Nagy with how (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky has grown since his first year in the system and the impact that development has had on the rest of the offense.

"It is literally night-and-day in all the right ways," Helfrich said. "Our standard for him is extremely high. But just as far as the operation of not only what he's supposed to do, what the defense is doing, manipulating protections, just the air about him is way different and everybody has noted that, observed that in various ways. Therefore, people around him are playing better and that helps too."

(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky told reporters that he's seen evidence on tape that the offense is improving, especially in terms of cleaning up glitches from last season.

"It's kind of hard for you guys to see on the outside throughout OTAs, but we are getting better as an offense and we are improving on those things we need to work on from last year," (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky said. "It's definitely a focus for us."

As part of that evolution, (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and the Bears have worked on correcting some plays that were not transferred from the playbook into game-plans last season.

"It's just looking at game film, running those plays throughout OTAS and getting them right," (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky said. "For me, sometimes it's just doing the footwork or getting the right protection call and just finding completions—and continuing to push the ball downfield and be aggressive."

With (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and his teammates possessing a firmer grasp of the system, expectations are high for the Bears offense in 2019.

"We're able to take the next step on offense because we know what we're doing on offense," (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky said. "Now we can adjust based off what the defense is giving us. We have adjustments within each play and when you see that happen you kind of see eyes open, you see guys getting excited because it's like, 'OK, we know the play. We know when the defense gives this, this is how we're going to adjust to it. This is how we're going to run our routes. This is how I'm going to take my drop. This is how I'm going to manipulate with my eyes to open this up.'

"We're just playing football, and it makes it fun. You kind of see why everything happens and everyone's on the same page and you kind of see everything come to fruition."

Super happy, working hard, making progress…my view is that’s baseline stuff. There’s nothing going on so it’s better to hear that than the alternative.

At least it seems like he won’t fail due to a bad attitude or shoddy work ethic.

Why would Watkins see the ball more now that Adams has moved on when they have never played on the same team together? I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up getting hurt, going on IR out of camp and then getting an injury settlement once they are good with the new receiver room. He will probably have as storied of a Packers career as Funchess did.

He can DH if football doesn't work out.

It doesn't sound like he's made significant progress.

He apparently looked pretty bad at the most recent practice.

Also, according to Hoge and Jahns, the only receivers who have consistently gotten open, even against backups, are Mooney and Jones. Everybody else is struggling.

We'll know where he stands in training camp. If the Seahawks took a couple of 2nd round picks for Metcalf, I would do it. Even with the foot injury. I wouldn't trade a first before 2024.

We've seen quarterbacks that we think suck have success in this system.

The entire offensive side of the ball got worse this offseason and we don't know if the play calling will be better. Getting rid of Nagy was great, step 2, hiring a neophyte who's never call plays, ever, was questionable.

We already know that Pringle can get open against starting level CB.

This is true, but It may very well be intentional. I will give Poles 2 drafts / off-seasons before declaring him a dumbass. I'm ok with the drafting approach, but not the first FA off-season. We will see how year 2 goes.

When his QB has a year to throw, yes. Poles seems to want Fields to get rid of the ball quickly which is why he hasn't improved the line. Leaky lines = Fields throwing under duress. The Poles master plan.

Keys to being a great NFL QB based on that video:

1. Offensive line that gives the QB forever and a day to throw the ball

2. WR able to run a simple route quickly and correctly

3. Play the Jets

If Getsy is able to develop Fields this year and brings the offense into the middle of the pack he likely doesn't stay here long, in fact, if he is able to do that you might as well move him to HC because you can find a DC anywhere, but a talented OC that has developed and has a good relationship with your QB1 is hard to find and the Bears organization rarely hits on OC's.

I'm not sure if he sucks. We will start to learn if he's going to be the guy in a few weeks. If he has spent the offseason fixing the MANY flaws in his game and his leadership ability. I don't need preseason games to get a feel for some of these things.

Roster will fall in line behind Fields if he plays well. Hopefully Fields worked on his scrambles so he doesn't get run down by 300 lb d-linemen anymore.

Who cares about having a shitty offensive line when you have elite blockers at WR?

AND a fullback. Will Fields have more than 420 pass attempts this season? Will Herbert and Montgomery both have over 800 yards from scrimmage?

The Bulls will be good for about a month before half of their roster goes down with knee injuries.

Sign, you are probably right. I have a ton of faith in their front office. But health was a big problem last year…..

There is no chance the Bears and Hawks will be good. The Cubs have to be at least three years away, and I do not see a path to them being contenders.

I am super sports sad.
