What if you threw a party and nobody came?

Generally who had more success, Mac or Bernstein?

Bernstein didn't sabotage himself the way that Mac did in multiple stops.

But, who had the better/more engaged version of Terry? I'd say Mac did. Terry was checked out for most of the Bernstein years...just cashing a check.

Let's imagine....
Current day...2 people decide host public parties / remotes. Same logistics (each is broadcasted on the radio)....Party 1 is Mac. Party 2 is Bernstein.

I would bet any amount of money, Mac would outdraw Bernstein by a mile.

Bernstein seemed to sabotage everyone around him. I doubt he'd get a 2rd or 3rd chance if he needed one. You know Bernstein looks down on others for intelligence or money or whatever but I wonder if the Mac stuff bothers him so much because he was well liked. It's something Bernstein won't ever be even though he does everything right and is good.

No need to imagine. Mac basically does this now every (or maybe every other) Friday at at NW Indiana pub.

Even as horrendous the current Score and it's hosts are it doesn't tarnish the old great Score hosts and content. Heard a couple minutes of Goff and it was very creepy whenever he's on trying to rewrite his tumultuous Score stint history. I'd venture the text messages from listeners are quite provocative.

It must be a rough day for Bernstein. He never imagined when he started that his entire career would be spent in local sports radio. It must sicken him to see Mike Greenburg have the career he wanted.

OK, I came back to do more hate listening.

And what's the first thing I heard?

"It's unbelievable how toxically masculine this station used to be."--Laurence Holmes

They are telling us now how great in score history Ms Rahimi is and thanks to July Dicaro.

Leery congratulating himself on a lack of masculinity may be the first time he’s accurately self-assessed.

Now they are celebrating the groundbreaking work of Julie Sweica.

This is quite a revisionist history they are writing in honor of their 30th anniversary.

And how many female hosts, or reporters/update people, or producers are there now? Oh yeah, none.

Yup, Mully is slowly transmogrifying into Rosie O'Donnell.

i heard drinky on and he told us he gave danny 'fatherly/unclely' advice about trying to go national. he said danny's dad was also more ambitious than dan and was on his side, trying to get dan to get more ambitious. dan said he was fine staying local.

thought bernstein was great, starting out - in small doses. i'm not a big b-ball fan but bernstein was an excellent bulls guy and i tried to listen to him as often as possible.

This is true. Back in the day, Bernstein and Bulls coverage / discussion was very good. I recall listening to him for the 1999 draft when the Bulls took Brand and Ron Artest fell to them at 16. He called it a few picks in advance getting excited saying the Bulls would totally catch a break if Artest was still on the board. Weirdo, but Artest turned out to be pretty damn good.

And he was frugal. Was able to save some dough by getting the employee discount at Circuit City.

Holmes doesn't get it. What made sports radio appealing to me was the bar/barbershop style of talk. I don't mind pre Penn State sophomoric and nerdy Bernstein or Parkins, but everyone can't thread that needle.

yes, he was very good. basketball was/is his favorite sport, certainly his most knowledgeable. was excellent when the bulls won their #5 and 6th titles. i had a walkman on at work and remember him getting 15 mins here and 15 mins there for his bulls reports. i thought he was great.

i don't remember his take on the duke lacrosse sex scandal or whatever it was, but, i do remember he was very opinionated and that was his first foray in talking about social issues. prior to that - much of his humor with boers wasn't even sophisticated, usually sexual in nature or making fun of callers. i blame boers for diluting his sport content and encouraged him to make fun of this and that.
