This thread has had ten different people post here and its added three pages in barely an hour. Its not the NFL season, and this talk is largely about a stadium.

Just goes to show that you can talk any NFL subject at any time of the year and it will dominate.

That won't likely happen. The Bears have an arrangement that an NFL team can't be within 50 miles of where they are playing.

I wonder how they calculate. Arlington Heights is 36 miles driving distance from the loop. Take the closest spot of that property and it would be pretty close to 50 for soldier field. Definitely a legal argument to make if you are talking the front step of each stadium.

If the NFL can make money on a second team in Chicago, whatever 50-mile rule they had will be history if the Bears build a football palace in Arlington Heights.

I am sure the NFL would be very interested in moving a team such as the Jags into a completely NFL-ready stadium on the Chicago lakefront in a city more than large enough to support 2 teams.
There is no chance they move into Soldier Field as constructed now. They'd probably consider it if the city spent this nearly $2 billion on Soldier Field though but the question would be why not just let them also move it into Arlington Heights. The Bears are working with the NFL here and the NFL seemingly loves the idea of the Arlington Heights stadium. Why would they turn around and send another team to the stadium they were happy to have the Bears leave?

Because the NFL would get the domed stadium in Arlington Heights, a potential Super Bowl site, and get an under-performing AFC franchise out of Jacksonville into a stadium that is 100% NFL-ready in a beautiful location in an NFL-crazy city.

You have a higher opinion of Soldier Field than the NFL does.

Is the 50 mile enforceable legally?

Not true. They were huge when they were "huge" for a time.

Soldier Field is a completely NFL-ready stadium on one of the most iconic beautiful sites in the league in maybe the most football-hungry city in America. OR they could continue to tarp off thousands of seats in Jacksonville, I'm sure that's a better option.

Much like the Chicago Park District, it's not due to your "contributions" that's for sure. You're not even an effective troll with your dumbass. Leave that sort of shit to Nas or people that actually "know" what they are doing around here.

They didn't try and stop the Raiders. They literally helped finance the stadium.

The Chargers got to move because they were moving into the new stadium already being built. I don't think the NFL was thrilled with that move but it's far different than building a brand new stadium.

They moved to LA and then back to Oakland. The courts decided that issue and probabl would have to decide it again. The NFL isn't all-powerful in that regard.
They are pretty powerful especially in a town where there already is a team. LA was a slightly different situation.

But keep on going with the idea that the Jags are going to jump into Soldier Field without a dome as the Bears are leaving it because it's not up to par for a modern day NFL stadium.

I grew up in Jets/Giants territory - they Jets have never been "huge" (Super Bowl III is a bit before my time, but mid 70's on). The only blip I can remember was during the Sack Exchange years and even then they were never gonna match the Giants.

that stadium doesnt need a 2 billion dollar upgrade to be home for an AFC team if the Bears have a new domed stadium in Arlington Heights. Keep it an outdoor stadium and update it accordingly.

Your "analysis" as to why the Jets moved is stupid. Though Frank does happen to support it, which only makes the "thought" even dumber. Jets moved because of Stadium issues. Not lack of fan interest.

Everyone but you is talking about the Jags or Cardinals moving in without a complete rebuild of Soldier Field.

Of course the NFL would consider it if they did a $2 billion upgrade to Soldier Field if they could. It would still make more sense to just have both teams play in AH though.

It looks like outside of the Raiders you haven't seen a team move to a city without getting a new stadium since sometime in the 70s. I doubt Soldier Field is worthy of breaking that trend as it is constituted.

Jaguars lease is up in 2030. One thing we learned with baseball many years ago is that the State of Florida did not fuck around with contracts and these professional sports teams. That's why you still see the Rays, Marlins, Jaguars and Hockey Panthers still there. 2030 isn't that long away and let's not forget how much the league would love to put a team in the UK or other city in Europe. The Jaguars make the most sense for that stupid decision.

The Jets would be just fine if they'd stop being the embarrassment of the league. I know it's romantic for the city folks to think it matters if the team plays within the city limits, but that is fantasy. There is no shortage of teams that play in their suburban counterparts but the best example is the Dallas Cowboys. They're doing just fine playing nowhere near Dallas.

The Chargers were a clusterfuck owner playing chicken with the city and losing badly. I don't think the league got as involved as nearly as much as they should have, but eventually the Chargers will move and eventually it will be in a brand new taxpayer funded stadium. Maybe that's San Diego...maybe it's Oakland...maybe downtown Chicago. They sure as hell won't be staying in LA long term.
