No one wants to see this aerial photo before the Bears blow out the Packers. More importantly, no one wants to get drunk or hangout in Arlington Heights.

IZOD Center and Barclays are both under 10 miles from MSG so it really wasn't a major change.

It's the instinctual emotion of being in Brooklyn that makes the difference. People perk up. That's worth something.

Here is the aerial photo from the last time the Bears blew out the Packers;

Every other NFL team: Bears, move to Arlington Heights.
Every other NFL team: Jags, move to Soldier Field as soon as they leave!

I'm going to say that's unlikely to be what is going on here.

Arlington Heights will build another prison for great Chicagoans who dare to travel closer to Green Bay to watch the Bears and have a few beers. Chicago cops are kind enough to look the other way after big events.

So theoretically, a NFL franchise could be placed in Tinley Park. I don't think this 50 mile rule has a leg to stand on.

The NFL would consider it with enough free money but I don't see how they undercut the Bears during the transition period which takes away significant value of the move by giving fans that live closer to Soldier Field an easy excuse to not be Bears fans any more especially when they'd probably make even more overall money by just having the Jags also play in the bigger stadium in AH too.

Doming it probably works. Bears can use a new stadium to be honest. I believe that Soldier's Field has landmark status however. If not then tear it down and build another stadium and NFL teams will be salivating to get there. Not to mention that the casino will be not too far away and the place will be a gold mine.

I am not against doming Soldier Field to attract another team if the Bears move to Arlington Heights. Heck I dont care if they knock it down completely and build a new stadium on that site if they scrape up the money, I am just saying it wouldn't be mandatory to do so and the Jags playing in an updated outdoor Soldier Field is a already better situation for Chicago and the NFL than the Bears moving and leaving Jacksonville in its current situation. A second team in Chicago would be tremendous and the Bears moving to AH is a golden opportunity.

Who’d want to move where they don’t own the stadium and have to deal with the Chicago Park District?

Owning can become expensive over time. The park district does whatever the Bears ask them to do.

Perhaps a team with the worst fan base in the worst football city in the NFL who would like to relocate to a city with a potentially great fan base and great thirst for football?

You are a Giants fan. How many people are fans of both the Jets and Giants? In my experience when I lived there, the answer is virtually no one.

So, the Jags move here and either succeed and take a significant amount of Bears fans, undercutting the value provided to the NFL by the move to AH, or the Jags are in the same position they are now where they just don't have many fans. They move to Chicago and the hope is that in a generation or two they end up being the White Sox.

Interferes with tee times. McMansionites will buy season tix. They just won't go but a couple times. They'll give them to Jason Bernstein and his buddies.

What's the passion quotient over there at Wrigley since the grand mall of fake tradition was built?

You just buy tickets to give the appearance of being cool. Chicagoans already know this.

We don’t buy tickets. We’re given them by our corporate employers.

NFL teams have high school and college kids playing on their field before games. The park district asked the Bears about a turf field, and the Bears rightfully declined because of all the injuries caused by turf. Nearly every high school or college stadium in the Chicago area has turf though. The park district has been a good partner.

Like any other multi-team city situations, the attitude is typically one of ambivalence and indifference to the other team. They both poke at each other for bragging rights but when push comes to shove you pick one team and root for them.

New York is a perfect example of what could happen here - one "favorite" and one "underdog" franchise, both with plenty of support in a city and population center the size of Chicago and suburbs. The Jaguars (or any other team looking to re-locate) would have the distinct advantage of playing on the lakefront in a city ready-made for a second team. They would likely never overtake the Bears in terms of fandom but would clearly be in position to succeed. Its a dream re-location scenario.

That's the point though. The NFL as a whole doesn't gain by any Bears fans that become Jags fans in this scenario. It's not like Chicago has a huge group of people that are like "I want to have a favorite NFL team but I don't want it to be the Bears so hopefully the Jaguars come here at some point". So, either the Jags sell very few tickets or the Bears value goes down significantly.

I think it’s ridiculous to suggest Chicago could have two professional sports teams in the same league, one of which is widely popular and the other with a smaller, albeit better fan base.

There definitely could be two teams. The question is how does adding a second team significantly increase the value of the NFL when it would pretty much just be trading Bears fans who mostly root for teams based on proximity to water to the Chicago Jaguars.
