I got into video games as an adolescent. By the time I graduated college and started looking for work I felt weird during the rare times I sat down to play Madden or whatever. It just felt like something I shouldn't be doing. Now I play like five times a year at most.

However I'm noticing people even older than me playing games on a regular basis and thinking nothing of it. Guys in their 40s. And it got me wondering about if playing video games as an older 40+ dude is the new bowling or whatever - something guys do just to pass time on an off day or even as a skill they want to develop and hone. Basically, are we past the point where videos games are considered something kids do?

I'm not saying you're wrong here, but if this is the case wouldn't lying around playin video games be such a waste? I'm not saying you don't every so often play the odd title, but it shouldn't be something you do daily. Shit's bad for you, AIDS for your brains.

I don't disagree with you about the impact it CAN have when it becomes an addiction. That being said, I'm hesitant to judge folks for having different habits than I do. This place is an addiction for most of us. The same is true for sports.

Think about stuff dudes do that's a complete waste of time. Just recreational stuff that doesn't make you grow intellectually or develop new skills or whatever. Video games are in the same class no? So what's the difference?

If everything you did were productive, you would probably die very early.

Still play them, still enjoy them, just don't have time to 100% everything.

I agree . Whether it’s video games , social media , golf , stamp collecting , whatever , we could all be more productive and better ourselves doing “ other “ things but wtf, we ain’t robots .

Yep agreed. Calling recreational stuff a waste of time was a poor choice of words on my side. I just mean from a devil's advocate point of view I don't understand the stigma behind playing video games while older if it's just another recreational activity.

Just curious: what are the better time wasters in your view and why is investing time in those activities better than investing in video games.

video games don't have to be mind-numbing button mashers. they can be useful, tactical, and even help your brain out.

i only play older games...i haven't bought a new system since xbox 360. newer games are either too complex or time consuming. i was just playing some "blades of steel" and saved my place for a later date to finish out the tournament.

Travelling and books. Easily those are much better wastes of time and money. I also think other hobbies like model building (or something with textiles) or getting into cars or anything athletic are much better at developing skills and promoting a fit lifestyle. Even the CFMB is a nice little addiction every so often since I hone my writing a little bit, at least until I call LTG the n-word again and get banned :( (nothing personal bud).

l say video games are at least better than streaming television too. Since at least video games can be enjoyed socially. They aren't the worst thing ever.

I don't think travel and reading are in the same category as video games at all. There's no question as to what's better.

And if you're serious about the n word then you're a piece of shit.

Watching sports, drinking beer and yelling at the T.V. screen is good for you? Don't see the difference between watching T.V. or playing video games. Video games have replaced sports for the last couple of generations. Younger guys at work talk more about Twitch and their favorite games then they do sports. Owning a new Playstation 5 last year was like having season tickets to the Bears for these people.

I am in this category. I mostly play games on Steam. Currently playing a game where you build your own art gallery and view art for hours on end.

In Madden I spend most of my time fixing the Bears in Franchise mode then watch the A.I play the game, just making GM decisions during the season.

Play a lot of MMO's where you form a "business' clan or guild. Try organizing a group of players from different time zones to work together and achieve success. Shits not easy

I miss the simple controls of the 80's. A, B and C on the controller was all I needed to use. Now they have a button for everything L,R + left thumb stick for spin and R,L right thumb stick + 160 degree's two times to avoid a tackle :drunken: I just want to play s simple game of football. Not trying to fly a space shuttle.

I haven't been a good Madden player since early PS3. Whenever I do play, I use motion to try to read the defense and then adjust the route of one of my receivers. Even then, I lose at the highest level because I can't stop anyone on defense.

You know there are some really good PC games that do that.

All the major sports have them. Hell, they even have online real time ongoing leagues.
I am right now inOttP baseball doing the 16 Cubs season and in a hockey sim the 03 Hawks.
Every 3 days or so game time I am getting offers for Ian Haepp

I lost interest after the NES. Too many buttons, too complicated. Zero interest.

i play ncaa 2014 during the football season and will buy whatever new ncaa football game comes out.

i like 1st and 3rd person campaign type games. but i never finish them. they just take too long. the last 2 I played where Shadows of Mordor and Jedi Fallen Order.

I used to like going through the COD type game campaigns as well.

I stopped playing video games shortly after high school. I don't get how grown ass adults still play video games and see those stupid comic book movies into their 40's.
