The greatest winner in all of team sports, the greatest defensive player of all time, and probably the 2nd or 3rd greatest rebounder ever.

Didn't follow him much but seemed like a dignified person.

Chamberlain averaged 29.9 points and 28.1 rebounds per game when playing against Russell. By comparison, Russell averaged just 14.2 points and 22.9 rebounds per game against his rival.

Holding Wilt under 50 was a win.

That's because Wilt decided to stop averaging 30+ the last 7 years of his career. Bill Russell wasn't around for 5 of those years.

None of us saw him play, obviously. But I saw a documenury on him. He was fucking good. Wasn't the offensive guy like Wilt. Just a winner.

Then as an old man, when they interviewed him, he was always in a good mood. Always laughing. I liked him.

Wilt was also a stat driven guy. Russell was driven by winning. He even said he would let Wilt pad his stats once game was in hand so that Wilt would feel good about the game and not be motivated for anything more.

The man high jumped 6'10" before the invention of the Fosbury Flop. I've only seen one person doing that in my lifetime and I couldn't believe my eyes.

Greatest winner in history.

They did joint interviews years back and Russell would talk about how he would work to stay in Wilt's good feelings.

And how it drove Wilt' s mother crazy.

I'm not sure the NBA has ever had a better athlete than Wilt.
