Probably the greatest broadcaster in sports history. R.I.P.

This just sucks.

I have paid for the MLB streaming package for about a decade. The first few years, it was mostly to be able to put Dodgers home games on my bedroom TV and listen to Vin until I drifted off to sleep.

Bob Uecker, Jon Miller, and Howie Rose are the last of the great PBP guys, but nobody could come close to Vin.

Same from 24 years old through 30 or so, Vin would be the last voice I heard on most nights.

Two Post has seen, and almost knows by heart the Scully calls from Mookie Wilson vs Bob Stanley at bat from the 86 Series, and the Gibson vs Eck at bat from 88. Amazingly each of those at bats were like 8 minutes long.

Also tangled with heart wrenching tragedy. The world is a bit worse off today because Vin isn't on the marble.

There was a period in the 2010s that Vin Scully did the Dodgers tv and Dick Enberg did the Padres. Was some great viewing on the MLB app. Vin Scully went solo. I was amazed how gifted he was at his craft and how interesting he was to listen to. As a kid MLB out of town wasn't available so you though could hear the many great announcers when they did national games in multi sports or had national tv show gigs. Dick Enberg's "Sports Challenge" and Mel Allen "This Week in Baseball" were must see tv.

Vin and Joe Garagiola on the Saturday game of the week was great.

definitely a legend in baseball. my dad'll be crushed. he got any mlb package (extra innings, radio, etc.) just to be able to listen to him until he retired.

i'm glad he got a few years to himself and didn't "die at the mic". RIP.

Vin and Joe were the baseball broadcast to me, back when the only game you saw was on Saturday's game of the week. Vin was an incredible broadcaster that never worsened with age.

Back when you could listen to live game broadcasts on the websites of some teams, I used to listen to Dodger games to hear him.

One of the funniest things I ever heard on WSCR was Bernstein's impression of Vin Scully reading Led Zeppelin lyrics while in the middle of calling a Dodger game.

Will they resist shitting on him today because of his " conservative" views ?

i kind of expected that too, didn't get it. wscr heaped on the praise. saw and heard scully's call on gibson's ws homer...later, i heard jack buck's, and thought buck's was better. when harry caray had his stroke and the cubs had 'guest' announcers, i enjoyed ernie harwell the most.

1st heard Vinnie call the '59 World Series game ,Back in days of yore the team that was home did the play-bay play. So when the Series switch to Chavez Ravine. I got to hear my 1st "comebacker"

LA Coliseum. Had a net in LF where I think hitting into it was a ground rule double.

I can't believe the LibFags didn't try and cancel Vin Scully
https://nypost.com/2017/11/10/ripping-v ... ournalism/

Quote:
Scully: “I am so disappointed. I used to love, during the fall and winter, to watch the NFL on Sunday. And it’s not that I’m some great patriot. I was in the [World War II] Navy for a year — didn’t go anywhere, didn’t do anything. But I have overwhelming respect and admiration for anyone who puts on a uniform and goes to war.

“So the only thing I can do in my little way is not to preach. I will never watch another NFL game.”

Not a bad movie if you FF through all the non-baseball parts.

Listened to Parkins & Spiegel talking about Vin Scully. They are actually tolerable reminiscing like this. They were themselves. No fake voice emphasizing opinions. No PC, mandated opinions, not battling a lack of sports knowledge. This Shane guy in insufferable. Another Herb.
