A team built around speed like the Bears should be playing on field turf, no?

Maybe Poles will look into this when the tanking is done.

They actually ran a few blitzes that were anything but vanilla.

He completed the pass to Sharpe on one of them.

He should have stepped up in the pocket on the Schoefield sack.

I was reviewing this play just now, and Mustipher gets destroyed by Deion Bush on the blitz. That guy is still terrible.

I was lamenting the loss of Bush until I saw Ebner burn him on that TD pass.

Ebner seems like he's pretty good. Judging from training camp reports, it seems likely that he'll have a greater impact on the offense this season than VJJ.

This incarnation of the Bears defense is built around speed, and Soldier Field is a terrible playing surface for that kind of team. We've seen this before...

Aside from the ease with which cameras can fill space with skyline and lakefront shots, is there anything of value at Soldier Field?

There must be. I've been told repeatedly that if the Bears left Chicago city limits, that would ultimately become their downfall.

I haven't seen much conversation about Eberflus' debut.

Very few penalties, won the TO battle, didn't have to burn timeouts getting plays in...I think we have a guy much more focused on the precision of his team's play. I don't think we have the offensive talent to win, but I think they will be kind of like Lovie's teams that will keep everything close, win a few with defensive TO, ST precision while losing a few because other team's have stars on their offense.

I heard him talk after the game and he said he wanted to focus on this. He wasn't happy with the game either.

Its so sad that in this day and age with 4000 yard passers are 30PPG offenses, us Bears fans consider not wasting timeouts, limited penalties, and an added general focus on the 'little things' a vast improvement over prior regime(s).

Right, I consider calling plays on time and fielding a disciplined team the bare minimum for an NFL coaching staff.

The first teams on both sides of the ball were awful. Let's see if this coaching staff can help the players improve as we move further into the preseason and into the regular season.

Who the hell is Josh Schrock? I've never heard of him before but he pumps out about 5 bears stories a day for nbc sports. Are the Bears or Fields hype team paying him? He is the one that said Fields "Shined" in the pre season game and writes a story each time Fields "drops a dime" at practice. He even did a fluff piece on Jenkins after the game.

Josh Shrock is the Bears' most enthusiastic cheerleader since Cheryl Burton.

Sadly, he is not quite the looker that Cheryl was in her heyday.

Is Thursday dress rehearsal for the regular season, or will the starters also play in the 3rd preseason game?

Next game should be a little better tell, the Chiefs are one of the better teams and their first team should outclass a rebuilding team like the Bears, but the Seahawks are more on par with the Bears level.

Do see that they have finally moved Jenkins to guard where he obviously belongs, maybe they can actually salvage him because if you just ask him to block the guy standing right in front of him it should allow him to use his size/strength and not require him to move his feet. One would think that between Borom and Jenkins that one of them should at least develop into a decent NFL OG, maybe both, now they just have to have the rookie LT work out, then find a C and RT next off season, this is all of course best case scenario.

They do have some interesting prospect on the defense, they likely get gashed in the running game because they really do not have much at DT or LB at this point, could easily see them flipping Quinn for picks, may as well wait, there must be a Ryan Pace type out there who will overpay.

I think Borom should be a RT tackle. He's looked fine in that role. With the decision to go with Jones at LT, I think the Reiff signing was a mistake. Also, I don't think Jones reps should be cut in a preseason game.

It's not a mistake even if Jones ends up being great. It would be irresponsible to have a 5th round rookie from DII take the starting LT spot without any safety net...and there will be injuries.

Herbert has to do a better job pass blocking.
Fields didn't even attempt to allow the play to develop. Bad.

Everything is a roll out. It's the (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky offense from late 2020.
