Hate to give any credit yet, but given the rather acrimonious start with Jenkins and the new GM/HC, it does seem that they may actually have found a way to get something out of Jenkins, after all it has been painfully obvious from day one that Jenkins does not possess the feet to be a good NFL OT, but as with many college OTs, he can be an effective NFL OG. At least he will not be overpowered at the point of attack like Mustipher/Schofield, Jenkins could actually be a very solid long-time starter at OG. Wondering if they have their eyes on a certain Colts lineman who could be available in free agency next year? They also will likely invest tons of cap room and draft capital in the oline next off season, but if you can find out that you have at least a few guys that are long-term solutions it would at least speed up your rebuild.

Hate to pile on, but still laugh when remembering the, I guess one would say overly optimistic, take that one Hubert Arkush had on Jenkins and Borom who he actually called, "bookend tackles for the next 10 years", I know you can't make this stuff up, but there might be a being that exists in a galaxy that is yet undiscovered by the James Webb Space Telescope who actually shares Huberts take, but until I hear Giorgio Tsoukalos tell me about it on Ancient Aliens I will not believe it to be true, but of course they only talk about intelligent alien life forms, so that is highly unlikely.

Maybe there is a bit of hope that they can work with another talented young headcase on the team that is "holding in" and plays LB?

Many argued that Jenkins was destined to play guard in the NFL from the time he was drafted. Why did the Bears brain trust wait so long to make this move? It seems like it was provoked by desperation--Schofield's incompetence--rather than an accurate assessment of Jenkins' ability.

Again, way too early to give any credit, but if Poles has the ability to recognize, draft, and develop talent he will be here for the next 10-15 years. Recognizing the ineptitude of Ryan Pace is a fairly low bar for any GM, but do see Poles quickly trying to move on from most of Pace's failures which is an encouraging early sign, but that is easy because even a hapless idiot like me could see Jenkins was not gonna be an NFL LT, but as dumb as I may be, at least I know enough to be able to parse through the stuff coming out of guys that actually know NFL oline stuff like Olin and Thayer, both of them were not buying Jenkins at LT after watching his footwork in the first mini camp.

Yeah, it's not clear Jenkins can even play guard at this point. He seems to get embarrassed a lot in individual drills by marginal NFL players. Maybe he's not yet 100% after missing all that practice time earlier in camp.

Poles may have found a future all pro LT in the 5th round. As well as a future all-pro defensive lineman. It appears that his first draft may be flawless. The future is so bright, I gotta wear shades.

How was paintball practice up in Green Bay?

Mustifer will be here all year I think.

Kramer is out for the year, but hopefully Patrick will be back by game 2 or 3.

I caught part of Larry, Moe and Shirley today in the car. Larry wants to know 'what Teven Jenkins was told' by the new regime prior to the season. Shirley didn't get why the coaching staff simply didn't coach Jenkins up..."Isn't that their job?" and Moe wondered if the switch of Jenkins to guard isn't just a smokescreen so the Bears can still trade him.

A lot of time wasted talking about a guy who was hurt last year, wasn't good when he played and apparently has an attitude problem. I don't understand the fascination that the media and fans have with him.

I tend to agree with this...Poles seems like the type who makes up his mind on a player and won't change it. I think he wants to get rid of Jenkins and Roquan.

Yeah, he's never been high on Roquan, though Eberflus seems to want him on the team.

I'm not as sure about Jenkins. Bernstein's theory certainly makes some sense, though I'm not sure Eberflus would participate in this charade just to get a 4th rounder instead of a 6th rounder in return for Jenkins.

The thing about Jenkins is that his RAS is elite for a guard, but not as strong for a tackle. Moving Jenkins to guard seemingly aligns with Poles' philosophy of player procurement and development. So it's possible that the Bears really are interested in giving Jenkins a shot at guard.

He’s their most ‘talented’ O-linemen. Does that make him a good player..? So far he hasn’t done much. But on a team that sucks, that’s devoid of almost any offensive talent, under a new regime.. shit like this is going to be a story.

Atm, I don’t know what to think of him tbh. Whether they keep him or trade him it isn’t going to make a difference for now as far as I can tell, for this year anyway

Not ready to go to Costco and buy a pallet of Kool-Ade yet but see at least an effort to draft/develop offensive lineman which has not been the case under the last several GM's who seemed to treat the OT position like the Cubs addressed pitching, do not draft it and throw money at it in free agency. You end up with other teams cast offs for a year or two, but no long-term success and you have to keep throwing resources at the problem, and of course, a few of the high-priced FA's bust out, so you blow through cap room.

Do find the Parkins/Bernstein like Oline analysis here comical, can tell there are not many former offensive lineman here.

He was always going to be on some form of redshirt program to gain size this year. They seem to like him.

Poles noncommittal as to whether the Bears will have 85 guys on the roster for the opener.
