Plus, who the hell picks Saint Omni as your pretend name, wouldn't you go with something like "Mister Money" if you were trying to convince a dullard like Roquan Smith that being named Saint Omni gives you some type of contract negotiation acumen?

The sad thing here is that Roquan Smith needs an experienced agent more than most due to his seemingly fragile mental state, as some of the articles say he is a..."rather immature" individual.

Agree.. and his Saint Omni stunt is just another bad sign.

If it is true that teams have offered a 2nd rounder for Smith, you have to take that deal immediately. Inside linebacker is the easiest position to fill in the game. Plus there will probably be some solid cuts at the position in the coming weeks, Dats if you don't believe in dat JACK SANBORN!!!!

He is not slated to play inside backer for the Bears Bob.

The fact that he wants more money the Shaq Leonard is proof enough that he is not being rational here.

He's about to start playing a position here that he hasn't experienced since high school.

That's why you run to the bank with that if you are offered a 2nd rounder for him.

I would be disappointed in Poles if he caves.

Maybe Roquan realizes he has zero leverage and will just play under his existing deal.

Also, Eberflus guaranteed Roquan will be made available to the media when he practices, so let's see how that goes. Can't wait to hear what he says about Saint Omni.

If he makes Roquan the highest paid linebacker.

Edit: I see Roquan as a Lance Briggs or a Trevathan type of player. You don't set the market for those guys.

I’d be disappointed if Poles killed Roquan and everyone in his family. If he gave him a reasonable extension that’s fine with me.

If Roquan is Lance Briggs I am completely good with giving him an extension. I understand not wanting it to be the highest paid LB in the game. But this defense is going to need some really good LBs.

I'm okay with this. If he plays great the Bears can tag or trade him. If he doesn't, we dodged a bullet.

Yep. He’ll get paid good money either way and maybe the short term deals will incentivize him to not be fat/crazy.

Poles did the right thing.

Smith is set to make $9.7 million this season. He wouldn’t reveal how much he was asking for in his contract negotiations but did admit it was an amount that would make him the highest-paid off-ball linebacker in the NFL.

Details matter on how much of that money was guaranteed and if there were de-escalators in the deal.

I thought a long-term deal was the most likely outcome, and it probably still is ultimately, but the Bears leverage here was always clear. Bears now get Roquan on a 1 year deal; assuming he plays at a high level, he'll get a big deal or franchised next off-season.

The clowns in the media, in particular the Bernstein/Holmes show, who thought there was equal footing in this battle and though Roquan was being strategic with his public comments about a trade, pitting ownership vs. Poles, are morons. The Bears always had the upper hand and as long as Roquan goes without an agent, he is putting himself at a disadvantage in any contract talks.

Can anyone name any impact plays from Roquan ? Anyone think opposing OC’s are game planning away from him or anything he does ?

He’s a sure tackler, a big hitter and I thought he was typically good in coverage (notwithstanding some of the comments in this thread).

He just doesn’t play an impact position. He’s a good player that’ll help whatever team he’s on.

You make that guy the highest paid at his position ?

That's what Roquan doesn't get. He's a good player, but he hasn't done anything to demand to be the highest paid player at his position. He definitely shouldn't be insulted because Poles wasn't dumb enough to give him the money.

Would be interested to see what kind of stuff the Bears put in the offer that offended him. It seems the team fears he will drift on them, he does have a rather odd sense of self, his press conference stuff came across like a WWE promo someone had written for him.

The new HC continues to present himself, at least to the vaunted Bears media, as a red meat baby face footbally dude.

This seems to confuse/offend the "smart fan" types like Bernstein/Holmes/Parkins, but given that they were played like AEW marks by Nagy, that is likely a good thing.

However, if Getsy is able to unlock Fields and moves the offense from bottom five to top 15, he is likely a HC somewhere soon.

I think it's possible that somebody at the NFLPA could have reached out to him and said that if the league comes after him for that stunt that they would not support him, and to get his fucking ass back on the practice field and behave.
