Ozzie wanted lightning, Kenny gave him thunder. Next year, the Sox must be one of those teams that can go 1st to 3rd and manufacture runs. HRs are nice, but you can't rely on them.

They have some nice piece in place- Quentin, Alexei, Danks, Floyd. Couple of signings and moves by KW this off season and the Sox could become one of the elite teams in MLB.

They maxed out on thier potential. Rays are the best team in the league and will probably win it all, hats off to 'em. Given how poorly the Sox played down the stretch, with all the anomosity and injuries they had to overcome, the fact that they won 3 straight to make it into the postseason is nothing shy of amazing. I will never look back upon this season with disdain. Though its a bitter pill to swallow tonite, its clear that the White Sox were the best baseball team in Chicago this season, and one of the best in the American League.

Perhaps my eyes are getting foggy, because I don't see this as clearly as you do...

They were. It was a shitty end to both teams' seasons, but they Cubs were expected to be one of the top NL teams, and a lot of people penciled them in for the World Series back in March. The Sox were picked by basically nobody to finish first, and they at least won a game this postseason-- 2 if you count last Tuesday's game.

So, because the Cubs expectations were higher than the Sox, they are worse?

Each team lost in the first round, period. Doesn't matter if it was 3-0 or 3-1. They still went as far in the playoffs, and the Cubs were a far superior regular season team.

They ended up in the same place - so that makes the Sox "best"? Strange logic.

The Cubs did not live up to thier expectations of an NL Pennant. The White Sox achieved thier expectations and then some.

Again, that does not = "it is clear that Sox were the best team in Chicago this season".

Well, by your logic, the Cardinals were better than the Cubs this year too...that makes me feel a whole lot better about our season now...

Agreed, I look at Quentin and Alexei as super "finds" this year. However, if I had my druthers, I would like them to pick up an early 2005 Podsednik type of ballplayer that can lead off or hit second, that hits for average and not power. The lineup is FULL of power, and that's great, but when you don't have people that hit for average, then you end up with empty basepaths and solo home run shots. The problem with guys like Thome and Konerko is that they are too slow to be counted on to give you a lot of doubles or triples through the game. Ideally, we could move one of the two guys going into next year. Also, we've got to get rid of Swisher -- he is like the Erstad debacle to me. Wise could use some more time in the minors to develop his eye -- a sub 300 OBP is just a non-starter in my book. Same reason I don't like Uribe as a full timer at third next year... he's a big time offensive liability in a hitter's ballpark, and he's not that fantastic at defense; he is OK, and he would be a great utility infielder option, but shouldn't be an every day starter. Dye, Quentin, Ramirez, A.J., and Cabrera would be great to have 162 games a year.
Pitching wise, Danks, Buehrle, and Floyd are my 1-2-3 starters, probably in that order. I would love to acquire a fourth and fifth starter better than Vazquez and Contreras. I probably say no mas to Contreras, and see if Richard or Carrasco can come up to be the 5th guy. Jenks is still a solid closer, and Thornton and Linebrink are more than capable setup guys. Dotel has to go, and I would dump Logan if I could find something better left-handed.

So that's my plan... if we can get 35% of that accomplished, I would be a happy camper.

His constantly looking at strike 3 and .219 avg made him a Sox killer this year. Then he got pissed because he was benched for terribly play? Screw him. I couldn't care less if Swisher was not on the Sox next year.

Where were the Rays picked??? To win the Al East to
So playing better than were you were picked to finish doesn't provide answer!
