Not sure if the purported antagonist is as sick and evil as guys like Joffrey and Ramsey were. It's only been one episode but still - I'm not really sure if brutalizing petty criminals ahead of the name day ceremony or allegedly mocking your nephew's death is really all that bad.

I will probably watch this over the winter but I thought Khalesi and the dragons were the worst part of GOT.

Based on the initial meeting of the leaders, there is some band of pirates that are supposed to be pretty deranged and I saw a clip after the first episode of the upcoming season that showed some potential torturing on a beach. I thought the uncle had plenty of potential to be a pretty good psychopath.

10 million viewers for the first episode.

I'm excited for how good this looks and then they'll follow it up with "Jon Snow kills Bran and takes the throne"

That’s a show I would watch.

It's happening. That's the only way the Jon Snow spinoff works. Maybe Sansa shanks Bran Cersei-style first and Jon Snow has to kill her instead.

Is Emma D'Arcy going to be the main character? I'll just say she's no Emilia Clarke.

It's only one episode, but it's hard to imagine there will be the same quality of characters as GoT. I think the rest (cinematography, effects, etc) will be top notch...hope the writing and acting can match.

Then your winter is going to suck. The show is based on her ancestors and their dragons. The dragons should die off soon I guess, given that they had been gone for years by the time GOT season 1 got started.

There were dragons in the show but it certainly wasn't centered around them so personally I thought it was about the right amount. I agree that too much can get annoying, especially when people are riding them and the CGI is cheesy.

I need a refresher. Here are the houses that were in GoT:

Stark
Arryn
Tully
Lannister
Greyjoy
Baratheon
Tyrell
Martell
Targaryen

This show is going to show how the Targaryens ruled Westeros with their dragons, until the death of the dragons resulted in them being defeated by Robert Baratheon? I assume those other houses exist and will be seen (as well as The Wall?) in this series.

I don't think the dragons disappearing led to the decline of the house. The mad king was overthrown because he was a tyrant.

In the scene where all the people were pledging their loyalty to her being the heir, they mentioned the house they were representing. I remember hearing Stark, but not sure about the rest. Not sure how much of those houses day to day life we'll actually see though. Think this is pretty Targaryan heavy. (I purposely try to avoid the teasers and spoilers though, so could be way off).

Rough scene to watch, but I’m not understanding her reference to the “state of the world,” which would seem to be about abortion. They tried an emergency C-section, which was experimental but the only way they thought they could save either of them.

And the girl is named heir over the psycho brother. But patriarchy!

He had no clue how to end the series because “Storm of Swords” was supposed to be the ending until his publisher gave him a dump truck full of money to continue it. I think he’s even admitted as such.

The two dweebs who ran the show didn’t have a good idea of their own so they fucked around til Disney gave them a Star Wars opportunity and they bum rushed the last season to get it over with.

I don’t really have any faith in TV shows anymore. Not even BCS. I’m expecting it to end in a shitfest. Especially with how long they’re dragging these off seasons. Even before COVID.

It's really hard to say. Martin has said he didn't have much input after first few seasons and wanted it to go at least 10 seasons. I'm not even sure he thought about the ending. The books are a long way off from a conclusion (at least 2 I would guess). I did a lot of traveling the last year and read the whole series except for prequels (have them just haven't read yet). I was surprised how early the show started deviating from the books (and always for the worse). Season 5 is where it went off rails for me...if someone told me JJ Abrams had taken show over I would have believed it.

The studios make strange choices...like this show was given to the Rampage and Hercules guy. He gets top writing credit over Martin so I would assume he changed a lot. What would make them think a guy that made 2 shitty movies could handle a project like this...

The 1st episode should of been more about character development. The tourney scene was a mess.

I thought it was pretty good...I didn't really think they would go along with the king marrying the 12-yr old black girl.

Someone said this world seems smaller than the GOT world and I can’t say I disagree. In the first two eps of GOT you had at least a dozen main characters and settings introduced. Here there’s like three people and one or two locations.

It seems like they’re also going to be accelerating the plot pretty rapidly. We were reminded about 15 times last night that 6 months had passed since the first show.

They've got to make up 1,000 years until we see them setup Jon Snow murdering Bran in his sleep so if you are correct and each episode happens 6 months after the last you have about 500 episodes left.

If they ended episode three with a time jump to Jon killing Bran I’d be all for it.

I thought the exchange of insults between Daemon, Otto, and Criston was funny. Hadn't heard the term "Mummer's Farce" before.

That's what I thought too going into the first episode, but it's actually only about 180 years from the start of this to the start of game of thrones. Not sure it really matters

GOT was big when it was convenient to the plot of Danaeyrs travelling around. Then it became plot convenient for people showing up to different places within an episode.

It seems Martin and the new guy only had one sit down together and that was where the big reveal at end of episode one came from. It seemed pretty clumsy to me but the new guy says Martin gave him the ok to use it.
