Soldier Field? Didn't realize there was so much demand for a German Ministry tribute band.

No, not "nuff said".

Another one of ur sneaky in and out mentions of a concert, instead of actually giving us a review. And in the wrong board too.

This is like a Peoria Matt-ism.

Post ur review here:

It doesn't matter. The playing surface has been trash since they got rid of the astroturf. The park district is handling it. They don't give a fuck.

Doesn't it take sod 2 weeks to root? With constant watering and you have to stay off it during that time.

it's not so much the timing of putting down the sod---they've re-sodded the Super Bowl surface as late as night before and always put down their favored Alabama sod on the super bowl playing surface (when playing on natural) the week of. It's the quality of the sod you're getting from whatever sod farm you source it from. Super Bowl uses sod seeded at least a year prior,

Given the Chicago Park District being involved, they probably got the sod at Wal Mart out of the clearance section.

Who blows a knee first Sunday?

Yes, lots of water. Twice daily in fact for the first 10-14 days. I know first hand as over half my backyard had fresh sod put down in late July. Yes, the park district sucks.

It also looks like there are going to be on and off rain showers for most of the AM and afternoon hours on Sunday. Should be a giant mud pit before halftime.

it is the perfect time to core aerate your established lawn, over-seed and lay down an application of starter fertilizer, for all of you lawn enthusiasts out there.

Yeah I re-sodded my back yard and had to do half at a time , fencing off the new sod part from my 70 pound dogs who surely would have destroyed it.

Can't wait to see what 300 pound dudes in cleats do to it

I was wondering about the Bermuda grass, too. I guess it doesn't matter that it's a warm-weather grass since they re-sod annually or even more frequently than that.

They are always replacing the sod but you never hear about them addressing the soil underneath. If you lay sod on bad soil it doesn't matter.

I find it amusing that half of the high school teams in our local conference have field turf but the Chicago Park District cant swing it.

Bermuda has worked well in KC from what I have heard and they have some cold temps and would not be considered a warm weather team.

Off season football sod gets better ratings than the NBA.

Well written article...kind of interesting.

At this point, it certainly cannot hurt to try Bermuda grass. Whatever they've been dong with Kentucky Blue Grass has been complete shit, but I'm pretty sure that has everything to do with it being the Chicago Park District v. hiring a professional like Roger Bossard to come in and fix it once and for all.

No patronage jobs and annual kickbacks with field turf.

The Bears don't want it because of the injuries it causes. Despite how Soldier's Field looks, it doesn't blow out knees.

Does field turf cause injuries?

Some of the data says that it increases the chance of noncontact lower body injuries.

I don't think the park district is ignorant on how to make grass. It's been going on for so long it's clearly a financial decision

In any case, the new stadium will have a roof and better not have real grass.

Modern turf is like a foot deep and soft as a gym mat. Ever walk on it? There's no way anyone would say it's worse than dirt. If you get hurt on turf, it's because you're not used to it, that's all.
