Expecting a pitcher to have his best stuff EVERY TIME is batshit crazy.

You take that outing everyday, all season, and twice on playoff days.

There's plenty of blame to go around.....Cease had a good outing....it was a quality start, not a dominating start. I don't see any other pitcher on the roster capable of the outing Cease provided.

Good, but not great....the 2022 Chicago White Sox in one sentence.

Bad take, by 2022 standards it was a dominating start.

Cease got out of the first inning without giving up a run. He probably doesn't give up a run in the second if Pollock doesn't fall down like a dumbass and just tries to play like ball like a normal LF. Eloy probably gets to that ball and keeps the runner at second. I would venture to say that the team that is up two runs in the 7th wins about 2/3 of all games.

1R, 4H over 6 innings from your starter? I'll take that in a 'playoff' game ten times out of ten. Anybody who says that isn't good enough is either an genius, or a Cubs fan, or both.

For what it's worth Baseball Reference had the Sox with an 82 chance to win the game at the end of the 6th inning.

I don't expect that. But I do expect a real top pitcher to be at his best in big moments. There are guys that do that. They do exist.

You're right. Some might say a top pitcher goes out and gives up 1 run on 4 hits over six innings against the division leaders.

Cease has been good all season. Even in the CY Young discussion. For the season, he entered last night with a 2.16 ERA. By every measure that is great. After last night’s bad game (according to some experts around here), his ERA is 2.13. So he was actually better last night, than he has been for the overall season

2-2 , 1 ND last 5 starts ( arguably the 5 most important of the season ) .

"Elite" Aaron Bummer, who supposedly was ruined by the 3 batter rule, now allowing a 1.081 OPS to the first batter he faces

Also allowing a .368 OBP to lefties this season.

Last 28 days;

5 starts, 34 IP
2-1 1.59 ERA 0.765 WHIP 35K 10BB

Pretty damn good. You can argue otherwise if you want to come off as embarrassingly stupid.

Too bad Verlander hasn’t pitched in an important game since 2019.

I’m sure baseball stat page has it….

Would like to know where the Sox rank in giving up runs in the opponents next at bat after tying/taking the lead. What happened in the 7th last night feels like it has happened over and over and over.

It seems to happen when certain guys come into the game. Its happened with Graveman, but overall he's had a nice year. Happens all the time with Bummer and Kelly. Giolito also loves to give up the lead or give back a run or two after the Sox have scored.

The guy is playing hurt, unless you think the 12 he hit before the ASB were an anomaly. He said the pain in his hand gets worse with each pitch in an AB but they keep rolling him out there.

So on one hand they're telling players not to run hard to 1st, but on the other hand they're forcing someone to play through injury ?

It still seems like he’s swinging mainly with his top hand.

the entirety of management has been a cluster of bad information, inconsistent messages and pound foolish decisions.

The only two moves I can think of that worked since October 2021 are Cueto and Andrus, which were both in season lottery tickets.

Here's what I mean about Cease not being ready for prime time. He's probably the most difficult pitcher to hit since Nolan Ryan. And he has the same weakness- lack of control. By certain measures, what he has done this season is comparable only to Gibson's 1968 or Arrieta's 2015.

But I remember when Arrieta was set to pitch that Wild Card game against Pittsburgh and some sports radio guys in Pittsburgh were talking shit and Arrieta said something like this, "It won't matter. I won't lose that game." I'm pretty sure he pitched a complete game shutout. That's a prime time pitcher.

Say what?

There's 2 guys who shouldn't be on any bullpen roster. I mean, if you can't throw it over the plate, just go away. I couldn't care less if they have a 100MPH double knuckle sliding screwball.

Bummer 10 BB in 22.1 INN 2 BH
Kelly 21 BB in 33.2 INN 3 BH

And while Graveman(25 BB in 61.2 1 BH) I s'pose is semi-acceptable, he should be so much better.

I may be the only guy on the Kelly bandwagon but he’s been a lot better lately.

He was pure dogshit prior to the past few weeks.

I could not agree more. Let me add salt to our wounds by letting you know that Bummer ($3.75 mil), Kelly ($9 mil   ), Graveman ($8 mil), and Jake Diekman ($3.5 mil) are all under contract for next season.

The window might be closed.

1.5 WHIP and a 7+ ERA over his last 28 days/9 games. He has been better post ASG than pre ASG, but still bad.

He's sucked for like 8 of his 11 years, not just prior to the last few weeks. Every pitching coach thinks they can fix him. I think he just doesn't much give a shit.
