Here's what I mean about Cease not being ready for prime time. He's probably the most difficult pitcher to hit since Nolan Ryan. And he has the same weakness- lack of control. By certain measures, what he has done this season is comparable only to Gibson's 1968 or Arrieta's 2015.

But I remember when Arrieta was set to pitch that Wild Card game against Pittsburgh and some sports radio guys in Pittsburgh were talking shit and Arrieta said something like this, "It won't matter. I won't lose that game." I'm pretty sure he pitched a complete game shutout. That's a prime time pitcher.

It was in fact a 2 hit shutout, complete game. He was performing at a level in 2015 and 2016 very few pitchers ever approach and had the attitude that he could carry the rest of the team on his back, because he was just that damn good. And he was.

Can't. He's had one good year, one meh year, and then he's been awful in the rest. Take away a few games this year in which he had four or five hits and he'd be batting below the Mendoza line.

Always injured and doesn't seem to give a shit in the field, either.

David Wells once threw 147 pitches in a playoff game or some shit.

4 pages of horseshit and STILL, noone could come up with the right answer:

If he's your ace, then he goes another inning to shorten the fuckin game. So he ends up 117 pitches. Big deal, u likely win the game, then u pitch him 5 or 6 innings on Sunday vs Detroit (he would be on 6 days rest).

You never know with these LatinX* ballplayers either they are Johnny Hustle or they get really lazy, but this dude is just stealing money at this point. At 50 + million still owed, nothing you can really do about it....

This does present an important question moving forward. Do you seek to lock up young players early on like the Sox did? When it was done it was seen as a great move to get that core locked up. But now it seems like a really bad move.

I forgot. Your bit is to create White Sox threads in the MLB section to not increase your post count in the White Sox section.

Which guys that got locked up early are bad moves?

Almost everyone is a failure this year with the White Sox.

I don't think any Sox fans are going to look stupid because of this particular thread.

Now if you want to see stupid Sox fan on display, I'd suggest revisiting the 2021 ALDS: White Sox v. Astros thread...

Is that the one where you did restaurant reviews but in an Elmhurst Stevian style where you stopped when you watched your team get crushed?

Moncada is the worst of that group. He is on the Mt Rushmore of Chicago baseball busts with Felix Pie, Joe Borchard, and Corey Patterson. And even Corey had better career than Moncada has.

The problem is the Sox signed/acquired a bunch of other guys who have been old and/or bad. Encarnacion, Grandal, Kelly, Leury, Diekman.

Its what the Sox have done for years (Linebrink, Herrera, Yonder Alonzo, etc), and it leads me to believe Kenny is still calling the shots or definitely is still heavily involved with roster moves.

They also hire cheap managers. Ventura and Ricky weren't making a lot, and I can't imagine LaRussa is making a ton either.

It hasn't worked yet. And they're still doing the same thing over and over. Nothing will change the Sox until Jerry sells/dies, and Kenny is gone. Thus far, the players haven't been good enough to overcome this.

It's a great question.

Jimenez and Robert got set for life no matter what, and have often played like too.

Eloy has raked when healthy. He's missed too much time but there is no question he has hit incredibly well for the majority of his career.

I think it's a terrible idea. You remove some motivation for players to excel and if they have a bad injury and are never what you envisioned they might be, you are still on the hook for big money. Imagine if the Cubs had locked up Bryant and Baez....they would have a fair amount of regret right now.

You're missing another one: Grandal. He's more of a DH than a legit catcher. You're absolutely right about the glut of DH type guys, but shedding three of them probably won't improve the team that much. Especially when you consider (as others have noted) the Abreu appears to be on one of those Jerry Reinsdorf lifetime contracts.

I don't think it is a great question. You have a young player that has dominated the minors (like top 20 prospect level domination), you lock them up. The risk to the team is pretty small. I think Jimenez' contract is something like $43,000,000 over six years. When you consider what they're paying Lynn and Grandal, that's nothing.
