Lovie vs White Lovie

As bad as this game will be, the ratings will still outpace the NBA Playoffs

I don't think the Bears can win without production from Fields. This should be the easiest defense he's faced.

Getsy airs it out by calling 50 passes over the next 15 games.

It's pretty discouraging that the Bears made it through a few weeks of training camp, three preseason games, and the first two regular season games without identifying a single passing play that they can execute consistently well. Getsy will likely "open up" the offense against Houston, but to what end? Probably 5-7 interceptions by Fields.

Both teams suck so this game is a toss-up imo.. Fields is a ‘rhythm’ type of player so if Getsy wants to get him jump started it has to happen early with some easy ‘confidence’ type throws and dump offs. They can do this while still making the run a priority.

Defensively the Bears better be able to get better penetration up front than the last game and not miss tackles or flat out get run over when they have opportunities.

Kind of a ‘meh’ game but it is at least a chance for the Bears to scratch an easy win off the list.. even tho I said it’s a toss up I slightly favor the Bears here -I also think it will be really telling if they lose this game and still can’t produce any results on offense.

I think the opposite is going to happen actually. Fields is going to have a good game against a terrible team and everybody’s gonna be convinced that he’s good ( again ) , just like Mitch’s game against Tampa Bay

Almost nobody on this board seems confident at this point that Fields is any good, it will take more than one great performance against a bad team to change that imo

That said, yes, a good game would be encouraging. But it won’t be much more than that.

Well, it would be nice to see Fields do some bumslaying on Sunday, but I think it's more likely that he's the one who ends up getting taken down. I guess that suggests he's the bum. Right now, it looks to me like he's worse than last year, and it's going to take some time for him to turn things around, if he ever does.

At some point you have to open it all up for Fields to see what he can do even if he fails.

This is absolutely a game the Bears should win. There would be no valid excuses for losing to the Texans at home. Not that Indianapolis is a dominating force of football, but the Texans put up 20 on the Colts. That scares the fuck out of me.

I say this clenching and sweating....

Texans 13
Bears 19

Both Roquan and Matt Adams missed practice again today. Good chance the HOF journey of Jack Sanborn begins this Sunday

Idk if the cover 2 is the right or wrong defense to test Field's capacity to make completions.

Glass half full: cover 2 takes away the long ball but gives up short passes. Maybe Fields builds confidence by completing 5-7 yard passes in succession and gets into a groove. Possibly hits 10+ yarders.

Glass half empty: Fields tries to air it out deep and gets screwed by the cover 2. Confidence is shot and he sucks the whole game.

this is generally true when you're aware of your team's floor. What is the Bears floor? Do we even know? Most experts say the Bears have a bottom 3 or 5 roster. What is the floor when you are that bad? Are teams this deprived of talent expected to win "home" games, even against likely non-playoff teams? Not sure.

Thats it in a nutshell. When Lovie ran it here, the theory was we’re not giving up the long ball and you’ll have to dink and dunk your way down the field but we think we’ll either be able to take the ball away before you can get all the way down the field, or force the quarterback into being impatient and forcing one that will be intercepted. If Fields stays patient the short throws will be there.

Injury report:

C Justin Britt (non-football illness)
LB K P-L (groin)

LB Roquan Smith (goldbricking til he's traded)
CB Dan Crankshank (hamstring)
WR Velus Jones Jr (old)

Legendary former Bears HC LL Smith is winless at Soldier Field since parting ways with the #c83803 and #0b162a.
Losing to prime Jay Cutler after Tampa's QB Josh McCown, who had been on the Bears the previous 2 seasons, came out on the opening drive and immediately threw the ball to his old team. McCown appeared perplexed when none of the Bears players would celebrate the completion with him. Coach Smith's infamous Soldier Field luck could not hold off the mighty Bulls of South Florida in a 2018 tilt at Soldier Field. Smith's Fightin' Illini coughing up a 2 TD 4th quarter lead on the way to a loss Coach Lovie Lee Smith would afterward describe as a moral victory as the Bulls "kicked our asses way worse last year".

Texans 4-1 all time vs the Bears

Neither the Bears or Texans have hit the over so far this season? I think this is where Mac liked to bet into the trend and take the over; currently sitting at around 40, depending on your book.

The Texans are winless (0-4-1) when within 7 points at the two minute warning since the 2021 season — tied for worst in NFL; League Avg: .492.

The Texans are 1-12-1 (.071) when converting less than 50% of third down conversion opportunities since the 2021 season — worst in NFL; League Avg: .421.

The Texans were winless (0-10) when scoring less than 22 points last season — tied for worst in NFL; League Avg: .222.

The Bears are winless (0-6) when losing at least one fumble since the 2021 season — tied for worst in NFL; League Avg: .374.

The Bears are winless (0-3) when rushing less than 25 times since the 2021 season — tied for worst in NFL; League Avg: .279.

The Bears were 4-9 (.308) when the opposing team commits less than 60 yards in penalties last season — 6th-worst in NFL; League Avg: .483.

Over and the points? if you got or can get +3 or better. Offenses should get going in week 3 and the weather looks amenable to scoring.

Patience isn't his problem, though. It's seeing the openings and releasing the ball quickly. In the words of Mike Martz, he's not a read and react guy.

Run the ball. Two back sets. Let Fields out of the pocket please. Let the defense attack and get turnovers. 2-1 is the goal. No excuses. Win.

You might be right. I don't know. What I do know is the Mike Martz is not anyone that i find has credibility when he hates the Bears as much as he does. He is one of those guys who I'd love to punch in the face. I hate pompous asses like him.

They beat SF and he played well in the 2nd half. Last Sunday, they outplayed GB in the 1st and 3rd quarters and tied the 4th quarter(actually won it if that Fields Touchdown counted), They got blown out in the 2nd quarter of that game when they quit running the ball and went totally conservative with play calling. Maybe some of the blame of that game should go to the bad tackling in the 2nd quarter along with really bad officiating for the entire game?

I think that they will and if they do it in a smart way and use his gifts, he will succeed. He's going to make mistakes but clearly he was hobbled last season in his development and is learning a new system which in itself is a big challenge.

You beat the Cover-2 by running the ball up the middle, will see if Getsy comes out with a solid game plan and sticks to the run.

Lovie made a career out of forcing offenses to stay disciplined and waiting for young QB's to make mistakes and turn the ball over, can Fields instantly recognize Cover-2 and accurately hit the 10-15 yard out routes that open as the CB's reach their landmarks?

This game will give a good indication about where Fields is as an NFL QB. A poor Fields performance resulting in a loss here and you at least start the road toward a top 5 pick and another shot at QB1.

I'm sure Fields will have a good game Sunday and everyone will get way too excited again. Remember when Mitch would always light up the Lions? This franchise will never develop a star QB. Never!
