Average in game manager at best. but credit has to be given to him for keeping this group playing hard and together during the 2nd half.

He has a bunch of guys who are playing for an mlb existence, not veterans with guaranteed contracts. Those guys are easy to motivate.

Every year we hear praise for some horrible team that had the best record in the second half. The Tigers were that team last year and now their rebuild is in ruins.

Grandpa Rossy must have some strong magic to have made everyone think he was a good catcher, a good manager and a good guy.

It's not hard. It's exceptionally lazy to not get into specifics of what a manager does and does not do. Managers have good years and bad years, just like players. LaRussa failed, he said so, but wouldn't get into specifics. He didn't need to, we all saw the failures. A manager is supposed to tamp down chaos, not add to it. Keuchel spoke to it, but unfortunately, he had no gravitas as he was a batting practice pitcher.

No. Managers sit on the bench and watch teams have good and bad years and are called "good" or "bad" based on what those teams do.*

*Exception: You can have a team with a .574 winning percentage and still be considered "bad" if you think standing for the anthem is proper behavior.

Everyone sees things through own lens.

Since he is a good guy some skew towards that meaning he is a good manager.

Others see him as bad manager since he was a Cub player.

 This actually shows you exactly what claptrap manager talk is. Keuchel can say whatever he wants but if he wins 15 games the Sox probably win the division and we aren't having this conversation. I'm not sure how LaRussa could have made him pitch better. I'm sure he tried. So did Torey Lovullo and Tony Beasley. All to no avail.

others see him leave his "high school sweetheart" and family for some aging C list celebrity and think he might not be the good guy he is portrayed to be by Bruce Levine

I agree managing isn't hard. It's why it's so baffling to me. Don't reinvent the wheel. Don't sit guys who are hot, don't yank guys who are pitching well. If you catch Kelly having a rare good day, "watch" him pitch for 3 innings. The reason bullpens are a crap shoot is because they are treated as a crap shoot. Shit's simple. If the White Sox want a "good" manager, hire me. I'm an excellent watcher. Plus I'll know the rules, I won't tank games, I won't promote apathy, I won't lead off bums.

No I didn't. I just didn't accept he's a good guy, which is reported so fanatically by cubbie media that it should make anyone question the veracity. But not you.

I dont know whether he is a good guy or not. He appears to be from his interviews and how players and former players talk of him. But reality is I do not really care if he is a good guy or a bad guy.

He is an average manager especially on in game stuff.

Larry Holmes has had to be near tears by now pushing Willie Harris as best choice as the next White Sox manager.

If we are going to limit managers to guys who aren't shitty husbands that cheat on their wives, well,,, this may take awhile.

   You're funny.

The Sox job is easily the least desirable (available) job in baseball, why would Tito leave Cleveland for the Sox mess?

If this is the criteria, you Cubs fans must think very highly of Ricky Renteria. He had guys playing hard in the second half on both sides of town after sucking it up pre AS Game.

honestly thought Renteria got a raw deal on both sides of town. But it is how things work.

He certainly did with the Cubs. I know 2020 was a goofy season, but Ricky dug his own grave over the last 10 games (playoffs included) with the Sox. If the Sox win that series against Oakland- and they should have- Ricky is more than likely back for 2021.

Ricky should never be allowed on a baseball field after that Oakland series.

Just hire Bruce Bochey and be done with it. Hire Renteria as the bench coach and bring in Paulie as the hitting instructor.

my guess is that Hahn will want someone like Bochy and JR will tell him to look for something a little less expensive

I've wanted Alomar since before Raw Deal Ricky, but he gets lots of interviews and never gets hired. It seems like something is up with him.

JR will like Quatro because he can get four for the price of one
