I like Joe Espada if that's the way they want to go.

Jesse Rogers today petrified to speak freely about White Sox managerial candidate Ron Washington. Said he's "a young 70". Downplayed his drug addiction problems. "He didn't get fired, he didn't get fired...That's how much they thought of him...Ended up resigning in 2014 because of marital issues."

Rogers conveniently failed to mention the sexual assault allegations. From the 3 -23 15 Sporting News. Washington admitted in September that he had been unfaithful to his wife, Geraldine, who he'd been with since the 10th grade. After his surprise resignation, reports surfaced that Washington had been accused of sexually assaulting a female reporter who had been covering the Rangers.

Heard that Nightengale said the three front runners were Bochy, Washington, and Schildt. Wasn’t Schildt accused of being a racist by a coach on the Giants? Seemed like a flimsy accusation but still seems like he would be a bad fit. Plus, we still don’t know why the Cardinals let him go after doing a remarkable job last year.

After a little bump he has unlimited energy. Even at 70. I'll pass. I didn't realize he hasn't been a manager in nearly a decade. Time flies.

Not since his Rangers choked to the Cardinals in 2011, right?

Parkins had a great guest on today around 3:45. David Samson was an executive with the Marlins and talked at length about Reinsdorf and how all owners operate similarly but you just don't hear the dirty laundry. I would recommend listening to the podcast of the interview. Wasn't afraid to challenge Parkins and Spiegel and flat out said Ozzie would be a bad choice (from personal experience).

I'll check it out.

I love Ozzie. I know what his reputation is but I wouldn’t have an issue giving him the job.

David Samson is quite interesting. I wish they would of asked him about specifically Tom Ricketts comical claim he's hands off baseball decisions and Hoyer has complete authority. Oh it's the partner Cubs. Can't go there! Would love to hear Ozzie's dirt. P. & S are comical when their narrative is disagreed with. Thanks for the heads-up. Would of missed it.

The implication was that Ozzie was guilty of more than just being Ozzie. I’m not sure what he was getting at but it certainly didn’t sound good.

That was a really good listen. I appreciated his candor. It makes sense that Rick Hahn has been the one leaking everything and throwing Uncle Jerry and TLR under the bus.

My takeaway is that he was talking about what happened with Ozzie at the end in Chicago, his issues with Kenny and Cooper and Daryl Boston and that it was just something that wasn't going to be repairable even after all this time. A lot of bad blood there.

I suppose Jerry could install him the way he installed LaRussa. The difference is I'm pretty sure that Jerry believes Ozzie was at fault.

KW won that power struggle with Ozzie. Now KW is the thing that won't leave.

I dunno...he didn't really say anything except "all organizations are the same." Even Spiegel had to call him on it. Then the exec said, "No, the other owners hide it."

Great insight there. It doesn't mean that the Sox are not especially dysfunctional. They are.

I think it was necessary to debunk some myths. Owners are involved in most decisions. All owners overrule their subordinates. We only learn about the ones that are leaked to the media by brats like Rick Hahn.

He misses the point that Reinsdorf is especially awful.

Spiegs gives him evidence that things are especially f'd up, and he just says, "It's that way everywhere!" That's all he's got. No insight.

It's weird, though. None of this helped TLR when Hawk fired him way back when. I think Jerry wanted Tony around. Maybe owners assert themselves more these days?

He doesn't miss the point about Uncle Jerry. He counters it by explaining that similar or worse things happen everywhere. Chicago fans belief that EVERYTHING we have is THE WORST is almost always wrong.

Rightly hiring TLR over Cheating Hinch doesn't mean Uncle Jerry overrules his subordinates on everything. Hahn has been given the space to make MANY shitty decisions. Hawk was as well.

Agreed.

And whatever Ozzie did, there was no coming back from it. Which is pretty funny when you consider that guys like Haugh and Levine were pushing his return last week end. Hard.

POC are getting chosen as their top managerial candidate by just about all Chicago sports media members out of fear. I haven't heard one top choice who isn't a POC.

I don't think JR invovles himself in everything, especially now. However, I think he and his partners are meticulous in setting a budget and any move exceeding it requires groveling, convincing and offering a first child. I also think JR, to his credit, was far out in front of just about anyone in sports in demanding diversity in his organization, which is exceedingly tough to do when you couple that with his loyalty.

If you want to see how much JR approach has changed, just look at all the personal descicions he made when he first bought the team. He fucked up the Cubs-Sox balance in this town for multiple generations with the indifference of a French queen.

like I wrote, JR has walked the walk on diversity in baseball for 30+ years. It's not like there is some shallow pool to pull from, at least in terms of latino candidates. He's taken chances on guys being promoted to top jobs for the first time.

I love that the Sox lost the prom queen vote. It was a total blessing in disguise. Other than the not winning in a division chock full of tiny markets.

my guess would be the Sox return a good profit every single year for their investors.

JR is like Bernstein when he stated that he sees his customer as the advertiser, not the listener. It's almost admirable the lack of fucks JR has for fans.

It's quite common in baseball for an 86 year old owner to bypass the GM and personally hire a 78 year manager who is slurring his speech, pissing his pants, and hasn't managed in a decade as a personal atonement for a firing gone wrong over thirty years ago..you see it all the time in the game.

Unless you are college age, it's a far better experience at Comiskey than at Wrigley.
